  1. As stated above, it looks a lot like a ruined factory, with tree roots and things going through it.

    I can't see lava being in a metropolis overrun by vegetation.. but there IS a volcano on the little planet map iirc.. so that could add a dynamic in there, I suppose.

    I thought it was implied that the volcano was part of Tidal Tempest's BG (even though there's several in there.)

    TTZ past DID have that, huh? I need to play SCD again.. it's literally been years because I LOST my fucking copy and I've been too lazy to go find a rom instead >=(

    "SSZ" 's bg is stored separately, although it's really simple.. won't take long to stick it in there =P I have all sorts of level layouts done on paper at this point, but customizing tiles is proving to be a LOT more time consuming than I thought it would be. Either way, I've got the level art for all but three levels in there now <3

    Awesome. FINALLY, someone makes those Sonic 3 competition zones into full fledged levels; I've wanted to see a hack that did this for ages. Looking great!

    Though, one seems to be missing from the lineup. No Balloon Park love? ;)

    At any rate, good stuff. Looking forward to this one.

    As for R2, I always liked to think it was something along the lines of ruins. Be it actual ruins, or the remains of a city/factory, somewhat shrouded in greenery or overgrowth. I always imagined the "little planet" music going with said level, as well. Seemed such an elaborate and atmospheric track to waste on menu screens. Just make sure whatever you name it follows the Sonic CD/3D code: "Palmtree Panic", "Rusty Ruins", etc.

    The backgrounds were in the background at the start of the first Zone of Tidal Tempest present.
    Also not TTZ, just TT. :x (In Sonic CD, the usual Zones are called "Rounds" (though that is left out in their name) and the acts are called "Zones".)

    In the rest of the games they are zones and, although I know that technicality, I'm used to calling them zones from years and years of seeing them that way. I hope that makes sense =P

    Honestly Balloon Park always pissed me the fuck off and I felt it was unoriginal and a ripoff of carnival night. I do intend on making a sequel to this, however. If that happens Balloon Park, Techno Tower, Aqua Lake, Gimmick Mountain are ones I have in mind so far.. as it is I might trade speed slider for balloon park, as I wanted to make chrome gadget a more stardust speedway type level and speed slider looks like it's made to be a fast level similar to stardust speedway (d'uh.. speed slider -- shoulda thought of that >.> ).

    We'll see, though =) As it stand I still have a test and a paper to finish writing for school today and I can't fuck around with much stuff right now ^^;;
     
  13. The original had tall palmtrees in the background that scrolled at different speed. I imagine they'll show up at some point in development.

    Why is it that the characters are off-centre in the pictures? Has someone been playing with the camera?

    Oh hey, I remembered I once made a couple of metallic pillars a bit inspired by the R2 scene in the Sonic CD ending (and the thing to the left). They're not really accurate or pretty and I dropped that level idea for my hack for something entirely different, but maybe they can be of use in some way.

    Oh, and iirc the colours aren't in the MD palette either, not sure.

    Those will be very useful!! Thankyou ^^

    Act 2.. there's going to be twists in level design to make all the levels flow together in a way. You'll have to let me know what you think of it all once I publically release the first beta =)

    As for the off centre issue, I haven't been doing anything to the camera O.o;; Maybe for some reason they're just off centred. Maybe it's just you? I honestly don't know =P

    Checked on some stuff and that loop isn't going to be hard at all to implement. Put EMZ where HPZ was meaning I've completely ported all the portable levels. Scaling Endless Mine is a BITCH, though. I'm off school now; however, and I'm going to have much more time to dedicate to this starting now. I should at least have a teaser video floating out there in about a month's time and I'm aiming for a public release on the same day as the end of the hacking contest.

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
    This is something I'll be watching intently; IMO too many hacks are based around features rather than new art and/or layouts. It'll be nice to see this.

    This one's going to take awhile. I'm having to create just about every tile from scratch while I could easily scale the others. EMZ is not a very scalable level and the tiles are naturally smaller than all the others since it's an "indoor" level. This concludes the last of the level porting and I'm planning on finishing off the design for DPZ next and getting a little more of ALZ finished and then releasing a teaser video =)
