Almost certainly! :D Still, I suspect that it is what eventually evolved into the common "Sonic" driver...someone with a knack for that sort of thing (Tweaker?) should take a look at it. Could be entirely possible to port music between them almost untouched, or at least in an automated fashion.

The driver (GEMS) is perfectly capable of using the PSG (Comix Zone is a good example) but most composers who used it were pretty lazy and stuck with the default instrument set -- I maintain that this single scrap of code is what gave the Genny's sound chip such a bad name. :P

 

It's not really related to this thread that much, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone look at the driver that Jesper Kyd used for making Genesis music. From his site:

Although that does sound a bit odd, as the 2612 is only capable of 8-bit samples, as far as I know. If you go to Kyd's site and click on "music", scroll to the end of the list and click on "SEGA", and then you'll see links to the four games he did music for. Within each page is a ROM of that game.

 

The hell are they getting at? I'm nearly positive the Sega music system can easily handle 44khz FM voices... How is thiers any better?

I'll check out the ROMs when I get home.
