  2. As Epicenter said before he stormed off these boards for good by a certain somebody going over board on the CAPS:
Anyway, this is a nice concept, but... 4 characters? If this is supposed to be a multi-player game, they're going to have to do better than that without simply creating new characters. What ever happened to Fang the Sniper or Bark the Polar Bear? I'm sick of seeing Shadow getting top bill while the majority of the Sonic fandom hates the character with a fiery passion.

Another Sonic racing game. Sure its sort of 2D game, but where is the original gameplay. Looks to me like this is basically just going to be Sonic R 2

It looks like it's going to be a souped-up multiplayer mode from SA2.

  8. But that's not true, or else he wouldn't be getting the top bill. The majority of Sonic fandom is hedgehog wild over Shadow. The majority of S2B hates him with a fiery passion. And I don't even fall into the majority here.

I must say, this looks very impressive to me. Only a few characters, sidescrolling in 2.5D...

When I get a PSP, this will be one of the games I get.

A Sonic and friends foot race. Slightly different with the mock 2D gimmick, but its still a Sonic foot race. Same concept behind the game.

In the same way that Sonic Advance 3 was actually Knuckles Chaotix 2? Two characters, with special moves and tag action thingys.

It's more like Competition mode, upgraded. Not that that's a bad thing.

Yeah sure, why not. While we're at it, lets rename Doom as Berzerk 2? I mean, after all, they're both games where a guy shoots enemies right?

Maybe there will be a big difference in game play, I don't know. But just by that little snippet and some screen shots, its looks very similar to me at this point in time.

Sounds nice for a 2 player mode in a Sonic game. But as a standalone game, Sonic Advance 2 did already use the "racing game" concept, with not-so-good results...

And since it's multiplayer oriented, it probably means no level bosses or special stages.

... this sounds like Sonic Battle to the next level, or maybe kind of a new version of Sonic the Fighters? Who knows. I'll play it on an emulator when a good PSP emu is produced.

Coming to grips with the fact that I've almost been here 20 years
Where did you get the beat-'em-up element from?

But this actually looks like a pretty good game to me, and btw I liked SA2's 2 player mode. :P

Well, It is a Side Scroller, instead of the 3D Sonic R. Therefore, if that doesn't convince you, Its going to be a BETTER Sonic Racing game. Sonic R was good, but the fact that it was completly generic with other racing games was saddening. Instead of cars, well, instead of cars except for one, you had foot racers. Water and offroad still slowed you down, and some sounds were just plain annoying. Tails's Flight sound, anyone?

I digress, I might consider buing a PSP for this, if it knockes down the price a few pegs. a few hundred, anyway. :P

Eh. To be honest, this whole 2.5D thing looks like it pretty much makes for incredibly linear levels designs; something that doesn't belong in Sonic games. The concept doesn't excite me either. Unless it turns out to be incredibly awesome, It alone won't compell me to buy a PSP. Though, those Megaman remakes, some other stuff on the side, and of course the homebrew emulators, are making it more and more tempting.

    Not necessarily true.

Ever played Mega Man X8? It is in 2.5D, but it has branching levels. By that I mean, imagine a regular area, with an upper and lower path. The lower path bends in one direction and ends up at the end joint. The uppoer path bends in a DIFFERENT direction and ends up at the end joint. Both have (separate) pits and environment to deal with.
