My god, Qjimbo, what have you done?! XD

You will be single handedly repsonsible for a flood of MJ fans into the community as well as a subsequent lawsuit against Sega. God...I am roffling so hard right now. 57 guests!

"Oh no! I have SPILLED the Michael Jackson/Sonic 3 documentary."

    Ok, last post.

-I'm not trying to debunk claims... there's no doubt in my mind that Jacko had heavy involvement in the S3 soundtrack, in one way or another.
-Sega owns the music... they OWN the music. THEY OWN THE RIGHTS TO THE MUSIC. If you put out a CD and on it were unliscenced Sonic 3 tracks, your ass would be sued in a heartbeat (by SEGA, I might add, and not Jackson). It doesn't matter if the track is in a WAV or on the cart, SEGA OWNS THE RIGHTS.
-A ROM is NOT NOT NOT a cart, dipshit. I really shouldn't have to explain what this implies in relation to official emulation and re-releases.
-Who says there would be a lawsuit already? Couldn't SEGA have just, oh, I don't know, signed some type of agreement with the Jackson team protecting both parties upon their termination? Gee, why would they do that? It would have been so much easier to just re-do all the songs and push the release date back, or easier still to just can Jackson, use his shit, and be insta-sued.
-The music was replaced in the PC games why? Well, according to reason, it couldn't be a copyright issue, and according to you, it may not have been an issue of technology... you do realize that the negation of one is not necessarily the affirmation of the other, right? It would seem not.

Tweaker, you really, really don't know shit about copyright and liscencing laws in the US. You're half-brained explanation doesn't hold... if you don't believe me, why don't you go talk to a copyright attorney, or, I don't know... read up on copyright law? Just a suggestion.

    Dumbass.

And here is where I go...

People, stop making stupid speculations. If there are copyright issues, why weren't any problems when Sonic Mega Collection was released, eh? The release was worldwide known :P

I can see it now: Qjimbo and his video becoming a hot news item, appearing on Yahoo! news: "What is the world currently searching for on the internet? A leaked documentary containging lawsuit material!" A week later: "A lawsuit has been filed against Sega by angered Michael Jackson fans and Michael Jackson himself". "A communtiy dedicated to researching Sonic prototypes, and even possesing a few, has been uncovered by Sega." It'd be a mass media crisis triangle XD All because Qjimbo spilled the documentary. Actually...That would suck :)

    Granted.

If this were true, then MJ would have been sued for releasing Stranger in Moscow (which was released after Sonic 3). The original composers obviously still hold the rights to thier own music... Sega have the rights to use it in the Megadrive version of Sonic 3. The ROM on Mega Collection IS the Megadrive version they were given the rights to -- they can use the music on that, but NOT the PC version, which they were not granted the permission to use the song on. What is so hard to understand about that?

The word "cart" used for lack of better substitute. The cart in itself, though, is just a form of data storage to hold the data contained on the cart -- The binary image of Sonic 3 is no different in any way to the data stored on the cart. THIS is what they have the right to chuck around however the hell they want -- it's also how one can get sued for owning a copy of the ROM image: It's exactly the same as what one could obtain in cart form.

Wait, what? I don't get what you're trying to say here.

Even if that is so, your "reason" STILL doesn't seem to be holding up in this case. Hell, you still haven't explained your reason in a way that you're making absolutely clear. All I'm seeing here is "omfg u fail at copyright laws tard lolol" without any explanation of HOW this is so.

Please cite to me your sources, and explain why my argument wouldn't hold up in court. Because god knows I'm such a dumbass.

About possesing some betas... Didn't Naka want that Sonic 2 beta back to him, only because it had Hidden Palace? Then Naka saves us for giving him the ROM, etc. Ehm, nevermind...

Smooth Criminal was 1987, not 1997.

Holy shit, Q. AMAZING job. I especially loved the overlay of Ice Cap Zone and Who Is It? Fucking amazing. Now I'm interested in finding a possible basis for LBZ.

Er, I know. It was a typo :P

But roflcopter. A major discovery (in progress at least), a forum drama, AND a potential media crisis/surge that could possibly lead to lawsuits or mass flooding of guests/members. All in one topic. This sounds like new mp3 material to me eh Qjimbo? :P

OMG! I saw her reply into the topic my friend linked me to! I was like "Woah an @shadowsoft-games.com email address! @_@" arg all these crazy links between the MJ community and Sonic Community *head explodes*

  13. Qjimbo, you're an internet celebrity! Can I have your E-Autograph?
See, his "narration voice" must be fine if the video is spreading this far and fast.

  14. Ah, this is really quite interesting. The only problem I can see with QJimbo's narration is that it is kind of quiet; returning to my normal web-browsing background music after watching that video...not fun. Sound explosion.

I can really see the connections now that I've heard the music, though. Haha, I might even look into getting some of Michael Jackson's CDs now.

I e-mailed Cirocco about an hour ago, asking if he'd be interested either in being interviewed or something similar. Should wind up getting a response in the next day or two.

I know I'm not adding much to the topic but I gotta say this is amazing work QJimbo. I remember hearing these rumors before and not believing it, but when they are played side by side the similarities are undisputable. The Icecap and Carnival Zone connections are especially similar. If you crank the volume up high on "Stranger in Moscow" you can hear the synth clearly.

    :)

Hmmm. With all this new evidence under the magnifying glass, it makes sense. I always suspected Sonic 1's miniboss theme since I first heard this theory, and now it is clear; they DID get rid of MJ, but apparently his posse was still involved. Furthermore, that mp3 with the credits overlapped with that MJ song cleared up that connection (I listen to my music at low volume on my headphones). So, all in all, excellent work. We have another HXC in Qjimbo, I think.

Makes signing up for these forums worth it, yes. I signed up originally to discuss the whole MJ/midi thing, knowing that technical difficulties were partially to explain, but those appear to be coincidentally linked to the songs MJ was involved in. Still, I should look at VGmix and see if there was any realistic way to port the "MJ Related" S3 songs to midi—just out of curiousity.

You should release a documentary sequel involving S3 credits and the Moscow connection with the overlapping MP3—it is a lot more obvious when heard together like that. But, anyway, just came by to comment on the current news again. Maybe this will help the other stuff too—given enough eyes, all mysteries are shallow.

QJimbo: Do you have on hand the clean version of the overlay mix? I was wondering just how far in the songs go lined-up.

    Hmm, just a thought.

Maybe since we speculate that MJ composed some songs in Sonic 3, that we are probably...you know...transforming into MJ fans our selfs?

    ...just a thought :P

EDIT: I just realized something. MJ apparently lends his help in projects but is left uncredited. I've been reading a book about MJ's scandle and remembered that he did work on the movie "Terminator" but he wasn't credited as far as I know.

I wouldn't say "fan" so much, but rather I do appreciate his work more. Quite a few of his songs are better than I thought, and thanks to Shade, I was able to obtain copies of them. Good stuff.
