Just because a wiki states something as 'obsolete' doesn't stop me from still using it, and it doesn't mean others shouldn't use it either. I still think SonMapEd still the superior mapping editor compared the current ones that exist. As others mentioned before, ClownMapEd is still missing crucial features like importing art from bmps and save states, and I generally don't find Flex 2's UI to be all that intuitive.

Strange. It works for me. Load uncompressed sprites -> Load palette -> Load mappings -> Load pattern cues

That's so weird. I can't get the DPLCs to load at all. I even made sure to download the latest disassembly and versions of Flex 2 and ClownMapEd.

I have cleaned this thread up some. I am leaving it as it is now in the hope that it can serve as a hub for people to share insight on why they feel something would be best for a beginner to use. I have left some of the clarifying posts to help describe what this thread is currently existing as; if a more definitive beginner guide is ideal then I'll fully support that being workshopped elsewhere and then ultimately pinned in this forum. For now, I felt this was an acceptable place to return the thread to so that there is still somewhere for someone new to look.
