You should've done this frame one tbh, it's never worth getting this worked up over Sonic the Hedgehog

I know you're smarter than this. Why you choose to go down this argument when that's not what the original idea that was brought up is a mystery. Starduster is talking about the development process Nintendo tends to generally follow which we know wasn’t the case for Origins. That's not up to debate. This whataboutism is irrelevant to the point of development time. If he mentioned Capcom, would you guys start rambling about Mega Man Legacy Collection Vol 1 and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection?

I said I agreed with him on the developer cycles and that @Team Andromeda was making a completely different point. I also said I understood it could be annoying he did that. I also just think the point he was making was interesting. Not all forum posts have to be beautifully following current arguments to be worthy of discussion.

Question for Sonic 2 VS mode. Is there any way to disable all of the characters' unique abilities (drop dash, flight, etc.) so that both players would play identically? Tried messing around with the game config menu in the level select, but disabling flight there does not carry over to VS mode.

Dunno why they didn't just let you pick the same character, either.

I'd also be interested in an answer for the same question for Sonic Mania.

what’s the general consensus on Origins at this point? I know a lot of people weren’t very happy with it. The music changes were a real downer and I do think in the future I’d sooner pull out my Mega Drive copies but I mainly bought it to play CD on a non-mobile device.

I enjoyed my time with Origins Plus enough though besides the glaring issues. I only played through each game as Sonic so I didn’t really notice any jank with the “new” character playthroughs but the missions were fun enough and the unlockables pretty neat.

I want to go back and play CD through as Amy. Seems like it would be cathartic for her.

On PC for mod support it’s a 90% recommendation from me.
For every other version it’s like a 70% recommendation purely because you can’t fix some of the less obvious problems or the music on consoles.

I honestly thought it was the funniest thing ever when it was revealed.

The bad MIDI conversions of the PC versions were what I expected in a jaded way (but hoped they were more interesting), but Sonic 4 Senoue returning out of nowhere was incredibly funny.

For me, for every bizarre bug or change there's some offsetting addition or touch-up that makes it worth it. I've only gotten around to playing it recently but tbh I'm actually having a lot of fun just trying to identify all of the subtle new animations and sprite work. Not every single one is an improvement imo, but I really dig just about all of the ones that generally feel in line with Genesis fidelity and are just adding more attention to detail. Like I just noticed that the collapsing tower animation at the end of Sky Sanctuary was updated so that it collapses in equally sized pieces. I just find it incredibly funny (laudatory) that the original animation apparently bothered somebody enough to warrant a "fix."

My biggest issue with Origins Plus mostly are in S3K, namely how much easier it is to just suddenly get crushed (I have yet to do a playthrough where I don't suddenly get crush killed in CNZ either from the spikes right after you turn the lights back on, or when you're going through all the speed tubes)

Origins as a base game started rocky but has slowly gotten there. A flawed but decent package of remakes.

Origins Plus on the other hand felt like a half assed swizz in nearly every area, especially compared to Mania Plus. A new character that mostly feels like a Sonic skin (not helped by not fully replicating her Superstars moveset properly), no new missions or options for the remakes like Mania Plus added (eg. 3-4 player mode), the same pack of imperfect Game Gear emulations they've done for decades now, hell they didn't even handle the physical release properly, meaning if you wanna play it on a second console, it's gonna cost you extra.

It's one big improvement was adding Knuckles to CD with new routes, and even then some will debate whether that should have been in Origins in the first place.

I'd struggle to say Origins is a bad package at all, but it definitely comes off as bittersweet, knowing they could have done WAY more with this.

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
Every time I play S3K in Origins the game finds new and interesting ways to crush me when it shouldn't otherwise be possible.

I can't imagine what players new to the series must think when they randomly die because they were too close to two moving things.

Not allowing Clear saves where they were previously available in the mobile ports/adding them to CD really hurt replayability for me. Ultimately, they're solid options for people without the interest or means to play the decomps/AIR, but it's hard to recommend it over them for those willing to get the decomps up and running. If modding progressed to a point where more features could be added, I might reconsider, and the mission mode is still fun enough on its own.
