Clearly they don't think the base game does have sufficient content for the price.

Art goes extremely hard, loved this.

I wonder if SEGA are planning to reveal more characters or they're gonna wait a time after the game releases? I'm assuming the later, but I dunno, it' SEGA.

I'm now 100% expecting Red as a playable character, by the way.

Edit: I have no idea what happened with quoting and why it glitched.

Yeah, that whole situation is stupid, but it wasn't a preorder thing, so not really relevant to my point. That said, I do have to undercut my original point since you reminded the actual pre-order bonus for that game, Lego Eggman, didn't get made public at any point.
Sonic and Sega content will all be free; you're only paying for third party stuff, which can be bought individually or via the Season Pass according to Steam. The only Sonic/Sega stuff you miss out on by skipping the pass is the Prime characters.
I doubt it. + - The idea of console exclusive DLC just feels unlikely to me. The only other times we've gotten Nintendo characters in a Sonic game were for games that were already exclusive.

Yeah, the “triforce” is a fairly common symbol that appears in far more places than you’d expect while being completely unrelated to Zelda, I don’t think it’s a tease.

Anyway, something else that’s bothering me about the…purchasing process of the game is that we’re still getting this digital deluxe, preorder early access crap. Not only is it a scummy invocation of FOMO, it’s just needlessly confusing. Granted, nowhere near as bad as Origins Plus yet, but I’m planning on buying the game physical on Switch 2 since UK retailers seem to be in the habit of providing offers on even upcoming games. It’s already been said in the comics thread that the (implicitly non-digital) deluxe version throws in an IDW tie-in comic, which I’d like, but will that be at the cost of the season pass? They’re just needlessly confusing things with their terminology for this stuff.

Seriously, I am so sick of modern gaming and it's obsession for digital deluxes and collector's editions.
With digital deluxes, they don't even need to exist because they can easily just put the DLC up individually instead of charging and extra $20 for maybe $10 worth of content. But no, the "consumer friendly" company called SEGA needs that modern-gaming-tax.
And collector's editions... Why don't we just get this stuff put out independently in retail stores? I really want that rear-view-mirror-dangly-Sonic-thing based on Sonic's appearance in Rad Mobile, but I don't know if it will be reasonably priced second hand and I don't want the entire collector's edition because I'm lacking space.
EDIT: Just realized my chance to grab the collector's edition has been gone for a while now. Getting worked up over nothing I guess, but I think my point still matters.

I hate (the modern) gaming (industry).

At the very least, the game being $70 dollars isn't the worst thing in the world, and it still looks fun. (Hopefully they've rebalanced things since the playtest in March.)

How are you running around calling people oblivious and then arrogantly tossing around click bait information? You can verify the amount of people who worked on Expedition 33. It was not 30 people. There are about 47 people on the main Sandfall Team. The number starts to bloat up into the triple digits once you start including all the out sourced members that they brought on board to help with development. And that's excluding staff members like voice actors, musicians, and some QA testers in minor roles. There are even additional studios listed by name only.

Expedition 33 was used as an example because it still managed to pull a stellar game out, with a ton of content with a more reasonable budget. This game isn't bloated up, they were smart with their development and they were able to price it competitively. I'm not going to give kudos to SEGA because they bloated up CrossWorlds development and therefore they are justified in charging $70 because of their incompetence, and yes greed. Nightreign just came out, being sold for $39.99 and has a far larger team than 33 and probably CrossWorlds. You can make the case that the game is using recycled assets from previous games. And they should. Developers should be getting smarter about how they develop their games to keep costs down so they can keep their prices down. This isn't a case of poor little SEGA can't keep up with the current market, not when they keep pulling this digital deluxe crap on us.

I was reeeeeeally looking forward to this but ho boy. I don't know why but I genuinely didn't consider that they might charge a whole $70 for this game. No matter the reasoning I don't think anything justifies this price, especially not if the game has paid dlc.
Average (monthly) salary in my country is around $500-700, so stuff like this is genuinely going to be impossible for me to buy with my current job : (

I suppose I'll be waiting for a sale and get it then, it's not the worst thing in the world obviously, but I'm really bumped out about this, I was hoping I could play it on release day...

From what I've heard, there may not be a story mode. Pity. And just when the Werehog made his reappearance. Well, it's not like the pricing convinced me it would be worth it anyways. I'll stick to TSR.

Sonic gets a few wins and Sega immediately charges 70 to 80 bucks for what looks like a budget title. And here you'd think they'd do the smart thing and charge low to be the cheap alternative to Mario Kart. lol lmao

Not to defend the price tag, but this game doesn't look like a budget title. Even vanilla, there's clearly lots of stuff in it, just maybe not the stuff that should be there.

It doesn't look very polished at least, but I haven't taken a close look at what kind of content/how much content it has.

It's a lot better presentation wise than TSR. It looks nice enough, but its not going to turn any heads.

This is an entirely different argument than what I'm talking about about. I completely agree that games nowadays do have bloated development and staff, but all I was saying is that there is a genuine reason it's $70. A conversation about development efficiency is barely on-topic with the game.

Also, me not knowing the accurate number of devs doesn't make be oblivious because it's not the point of my post, because "it's a smaller scale production" is still entirely accurate. I guarantee you that Moby Games link you Googled is still going to be at least five times longer for SRCW. That's my point, getting hung up on details like that is meaningless, and kind of still evidences you don't truly understand. To be honest, your post reads like you don't understand project management whatsoever. Idk how having more people staffed to a project equates to "greed" when there's more employees to pay and the scope creep is likely to kick in.

Using Nightreign as well is still a terrible example because it IS mostly recycled assets in an already existing game engine vs an entirely new game that is seemingly reusing almost no assets. And considering SRCW is finally using much better assets and is revamping the gameplay from TSR, this is not always a bad thing to start from scratch. All three of the previous kart racing Sega games suffered from being clearly low budget, but this time around it actually looks very polished and premium.

You're really not proving anything like you think you are, I was never talking about me saying bloated game costs being a good thing, but again, I really wouldn't judge the game's development efficiency until the actual game comes out. SRCW looks like it has a ton of base game content so I'm hoping that ends up being the case.

  14. Yes game development is much more expensive these days but I don't think Sonic as a brand is at a point where they can casually release $70 spinoffs. For the shit Mario Kart got for being $80, people still bought it anyways because the brand has shown itself to be worth it and Nintendo knew that. Sega probably has data that made them decide $70 was a good decision but who knows how that's gonna work out once release day hits. Just look at Superstars.

All that said, realistically the overwhelming majority of sales will be for the $60 Switch 1 SKU like every other Sonic release since the Switch came out so this is probably something they're counting on

At least we can mentally prepare for $70 Frontiers 2 now.

I’m probably not even gonna get this at launch, but I really am not surprised or offended by the $70 price tag. That’s simply the base price for most AAA games now, yet it feels like every game that comes out at that price people clutch their pearls.

The majority of users here are adults with expendable income. The price tag isn't as annoying for us (especially as hardcore Sonic fans) if it's the only one or two games we buy that month.

I'm more curious how it's going to do with the more casual fans and the people they really want to entice who don't really play Sonic. Something tells me there won't be many impulse buys of this.

Just because I'm an adult who has the money doesn't mean I like or want to support this trend. My salary is constantly losing its value even though it stays the same. Might get it on sale or something though.

I come from a decently wealthy family and I've got a full-time job, just because I can buy something overpriced doesn't make it not overpriced. There's really not any argument that the game should be this expensive, whether it personally financially impacts us or not.

  19. Pre ordered mine and can't wait the game looks awesome.

Its comes in the same price as most standard racers, so I don't the hate, other than the typical Sonic bashing

It's not that they are bashing Sonic for no reason, they are complaining about the game being overpriced and expecting to be lower than $40 for a spin-off title alone.
