$70 on everything except Switch 1, Sega really wants this game to be dead on arrival huh

Went from a launch buy to a "wait for huge sale" buy.

 

Garfield Kart 2 coming with the clutch.

 

Couple of disparate thoughts from seeing the trailer and new posts in this thread that's moving too fast right now for me to quote people in response:

• Preorder bonus werehog, god they really are just going all in on zoomer Unleashed nostalgia eh? Me dunking on it is more a bit than anything else, but it really feels like they really just took a look at Twitter and Reddit posts for what's in vogue for the fandom around the time dev started.
• Wasn't + - NiGHTS   rumoured? They're possibly our final DLC slot if they're not in base.
• Speaking as someone who accepts that games have been getting price-cuts via inflation for the past decade+, I'm still grouchy about the shift towards £75+ games, and really that's primarily because that increase is probably still going to benefit some exec who didn't really do anything. "I want shorter games with worse graphics" is useless without "made by people who are paid more to work less" - especially at a time where industry layoffs are rife, I do not have confidence that these price hikes are done with good intentions
• Oh god are we going to here Roger do a werehog voice? I really hope so

 

Here's the Season Pass schedule:

So the Prime characters are free with the Season Pass, and don't take up a slot. Also seems like + - TMNT   will be the last pack.

EDIT: More free characters are coming; based on the website, it looks like 10 free racers, plus the 15 from the season pass mentioned above. I have to assume any Sonic or Sega characters will be free, while non-Sega guests will all be in the Season Pass.

 

Miku, Joker, and Ichiban are free DLC, and it seems like there are 7 extra free DLC characters.

The Season Pass gives you 14 characters, 6 vehicles, and 6 tracks.

All that for effectively $20 is a good deal. Genuinely good. No problem with that.

So why is the base game $70

 

I'm guessing characters SEGA own will be free DLC, and crossovers will be paid.

 

With how many people were genuinely turned off by the third-party crossovers, having Sega characters be free and the crossovers be paid is actually a clever thing to do.

 

I do hope they let poor NiGHTS limp into this. I've got zero interest in buying it or "buying it" but it'd make me feel a little better about the fact that the franchise is deader than my love life.

I mean, it'll still be the godawful JoD design and that abhorrent twee Brit voice but at least there'd be a register on the heart monitor.

 

I guess those arguments that Crossworlds would get some of Mario Kart World's sales for being more affordable when Crossworld is $90 for the full thing are moot now huh?

I guess you still have to buy a switch 2 but I doubt anyone is going impulse buy this now. Will pick up on sale.

 

$70 is less than $80, and if we're including DLC, Mario will also get that and that's going to $100 in total.

It's not a huge difference (unfortunately but it is still a difference.

 

Its never been stated that Mario Kart World is getting DLC any time soon so you're imagining a scenario to justify this game being $90.

 

SEGA characters are free post launch updates by the way, if anyone was confused

 

I think the price tag might have been chosen as a way to make back all the money spent licensing all of the non-SEGA guest characters. That, and all of the talk about big-name "AAA" games getting more expensive to make.

 

There's nothing to imagine, they've made paid DLC since Mario Kart 8.
- DLC Wave 1
- DLC Wave 2
- Booster Course Pass

They'll come up with a way to make DLC for the current Gen Mario Kart.

 

Here's how it breaks down since some of the specifics are getting a little lost in the shuffle:

• $70/£65: Base game + 10 Sonic/Sega characters and vehicles getting added for free later + Werehog and his vehicle if you preorder
• $90/£80: All that, plus the Season Pass containing 3 Prime characters and 15 racers/6 tracks/6 vehicles from non-Sega IP, all of which can also be bought separately
• Both of those are $10/£10 cheaper on Switch 1, with the ability to pay (presumably that same difference) to upgrade to Switch 2.

 

The truth is still the truth and lies are still lies and they have said nothing about Mario Kart World getting dlc anytime soon.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing it, but with Naka's... recent history, it may almost be best to let NiGHTS stay in our memories as it was. There's really no way to ever expect a revival for it, with the OG remake being the best it will ever forget, especially after the... very flawed sequel.

And this is coming from someone who religiously makes sure to play the remake on Christmas week every year.

 

Why would Naka's history be a factor? We're talking about a spin-off for a property this forum is based off that he's best known for in developing.

 

Yeah, if we're playing that logic, we shouldn't have a Sonic game at all.
