Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Coming Sep. 25, 2025

There are things stopping them. Money. Time. Development. Marketing. And if the game is going to be supported for a long time, you're probably going to get that anyway.

Why do you assume for some reason that this is it, and there will nothing else ever? You would probably never imagine these characters being in the game at all, so I'm not sure why people have all decided that no other Sonic or Sega characters will ever happen.

And this isn't a "be grateful" argument, this is a "this is how game development works" argument. If we don't get Infinite, it's not because + - SpongeBob   exists and he took his deserved spot, it's because they didn't and never would give us Infinite. If Sora didn't get in Smash, we wouldn't get Geno out of pity, we would get nothing, because they made that extra effort for Sora specifically.

 

Considering I have already mentioned that I am not making an "either or" argument, no. I have to disagree, you're actually just lashing out at anyone who is disappointed to see a bunch of nebulous whatever crossover material when, yes actually, there is very little stopping them from adding the kinds of things people actually want. "Oh but the money, the time, the development, the marketing" is not an argument when the thing you're arguing against is that those things are being used poorly. SEGA are not some tiny-ass dev company that can only make the most cynical possible decisions to break even. They can do better, and they're choosing not to. They are choosing to do the marketable crossover stuff, which makes their other decisions look worse.

Oh yeah, "what if they update the game to make it better later even though there's no indication that they will", that's always a good sign for a game. I remember that from myself defending Rise of Lyric in high school.

 

It's got to be exhausting standing up for Sega / Sonic Team all the time. Especially if not even an eyeroll at their decisions can be spared from scrutiny.

I just don't want a game flooded with trashy IP stacking that doesn't even gel with Sonic/Sega. Didn't like it in ASRT, and here it's arguably worse since it's gonna be part of a long term business model. Which means I don't have to buy the characters, sure, but that still means online is going to be full of it. I'm gonna have to play with people picking + - Jonesy Fortnite and Amogus   for the meme and lose the lobby game of "pick a stage" to + - Bikini Bottom   over and over again, and that kind of blows lmao.

Do you really not get it. Do you really really lack the ability to understand why people would see Woody Woodpecker appear in Mario Party and go "oh that's lame"? Why maybe when I watch a new MCU movie I don't want a surprise crossover with Mickey Mouse, even if I like Mickey Mouse in his own terms otherwise? I enjoy steak, I enjoy cake, I do not want steak in my chocolate cake. "Here's a new game celebrating the Looney Tunes! Anyway, Ethan Hunt from Mission Impossible is here and we promise it's got nothing to do with parent company financing "

 

I don't agree that because the game is based on crossworld teleportation between tracks that means it is okay thematically to put outlandish crossovers in the game

 

I get the disappointment, but it is what it is. It’s ultimate a kart racing spin-off, so I can’t say I care too much. If the actual game is good that’s all that matters.

Anyway other people have already gone over the whole situation, but I will say I was hoping from the name that they were gonna throw in some cool and wild picks from other Sonic continuities. Imagine how many people would talk if they just threw in Sally or Scratch and Grounder without telling anyone until launch. I guess this also gets people talking though, more than any Sonic character ever would, let's be real.

I can see how this crossover stuff would attract someone who would be less likely to get a Sonic game ("Hey, it's that character that I like!"), and I can also see why some fans are concerned with this stuff cheapening the game (Crossovers supposedly being used to market a game that is primarily based around the Sonic IP). Personally, this is too crazy for me to get upset at. I'm all for this.

The fact that I played a lot of LBP back when it was officially supported might have helped too.

 

The outrage over these crossovers is completely ridiculous imo.

It’s just 4 non-Sonic franchises which could work as crossovers on their own...

Sonic was already officially included in Minecraft. I don’t play Minecraft but it happened.

I know TMNT can work. Especially after Batman/DC. I think it would have happened eventually.

Not entirely sure about Avatar since I’ve never watched it, doesn’t seem too far fetched.

Did I really need to put that in spoiler? Anyway I hate when people claim stuff like it’s all about money, or Sega has no faith in the game.

Let's not forget who people went fucking wild with Steve in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to the point of it making fucking Twitter crash.

 

Smash Bros. has basically become a big crossover event at this point, with almost every game IP of any note making some appearance in it. I'm at least fine with that because it started out as a crossover between Nintendo franchises anyway. I wouldn't have liked it if, say, Mario Kart World brought in more Splatoon or Zelda characters, kinda like how I'm disappointed the wildest roster choices in CrossWorlds are from completely different IPs when it says Sonic in the name but ah Ah well

If it makes the game money we could get at least get a sequel with a bigger budget or something.

 

idk if this is an unpopular opinion but I actually wouldn't mind if the next Smash was more 'back to basics' and focused on the Nintendo cast. I don't know how they're ever gonna top Ultimate's roster lol.

 

There are valid reasons to both be excited for and disappointed with the crossover characters, but like I said before, I will take every single one of those characters every single time over the literal conspiracy theorist whose presence remains a black mark on what is otherwise the best Sonic racing game.

 

I forgot about Danica going off the deep end and wondered what the hell I missed that Sticks was in a racing game

Damn, I honestly thought this would’ve been about the Yogscast guy.

On another, leak-related note: + - Dragon Road, huh? This game is really gonna be the Unleashed greatest hits and I really wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a result of the glazing the game’s been getting since around 2017. I just hope this isn’t at the expense of representation for the other games. SA2 has two tracks, H Heroes and Colours each have one, maybe two if Sweet Mountain is indeed in (with Roulette Road being a crossworld now), Frontiers has a crossworld, Unleashed is up to three now (I don’t count Sky Road since it’s been stripped of all its Rooftop Run aesthetics), and I really wouldn’t be surprised if Market Street gets a reprisal. I’d love to see the handheld games get some loving, maybe we could get Music Plant, Machine Labyrinth or Sky Babylon…  

 

Trust me, I wish it was Yogscast. At least then, it'd be restricted to one system and I could just choose not to install the DLC.

I dunno, maybe I'm not bothered by the crossovers because we're just coming off maybe the literal worst guest character inclusion of all time with City of the Wolves, which lowered the bar for all guests in all games going forward so unbelievably far, that unless CrossWorlds adds a character to the base roster that causes people to cancel their preorders en masse on moral grounds rather than just taste, anything else is just "eh, whatever."

 

Don't worry, everyone, it'll all be worth it when Bubsy gets added! Then we can live in pure blissful harmony.
