With the amount of time we know that new Mario Kart has been in development for, I find it hard to believe Sega didn't have some sort of inkling. I genuinely have to think if this is also partly influenced by Superstars going up against Mario Wonder and inevitably losing - for all the ambitious talk about Sonic, they are now making CrossWorlds look like a free-for-all of much bigger IP

Paramount's old parent company outright owned Sega once (and Sega came directly under them briefly too). Does that mean every other major cartoon they've owned should crossover?

 

We have an even more WTF roster here than Sonic Blitz, and that's saying something!

 

Why would they have insider info on Nintendo's games, and why despite having up to eight years of information would they still choose to release a Sonic racing game in the same year as the new Mario Kart game that is also the launch title for a new console?

Sure? If that's what Sega and Paramount want. It's not your choice, or Nintendo's. Paramount likely offered Sega an extremely lucrative deal that they'd be dumb to turn over nonsense like " + - SpongeBob doesn't belong in Sonic   " years after putting Danica Patrick from NASCAR in their Sonic racing game.

 

They should put in Akira at this point.

This is incredibly stupid lmao. On a base level I think SpongeBob is an immensely irritating and cringey character, but more generally I do think the roster is diluted by having four guest characters before the game’s even got a release date, not to mention they’re not even video game characters. If they were set on doing non-SEGA guests, I would’ve liked something more stylistically at home with Sonic’s aesthetics, such as Klonoa or, hell, Astro Bot if we want to go with something more culturally relevant (though I don’t have any particular feelings for either character, give me Pac-Man you nerds) - same kind of vibe as 2B in Granblue Fantasy Versus. I suppose in that sense you could give Aang a pass and May the TMNT depending on the designs they go for, but I digress. It also just cheapens the game to me.

You’re probably right, but I don’t think it impacts the substance of my point at all.

 

Nail on the head. "Cheapen" is the word here - it's not just that it's + - Spongebob   , it's all the others they're shoving into it too without seemingly giving a single thought to what might just look and work better.

I wouldn't have really noticed if this was being done after the game had failed and needed something to drum up interest, or even if it had already been a success. To do this as it's being launched just has the scent of desperation from the very off.

 

You guys know that everyone leaked will most definitely be optional DLC right? They don't even disqualify other SEGA reps lol

 

I've spent some time thinking about it. I genuinely hope fans get something out of it. I recognise it has a huge fandom. I find it annoying and dumb. I'm not happy about it. But I hope it brings joy to others.
