Those stats are for the Steam version. What about the mobile versions?

 

I believe Ian said on a Bumblekast that while Honey isn't off limits, the fact she's based on a Fighting Vipers character does mean there are extra hurdles to jump through whenever someone wants to use her for something.

...would I be being too negative if I said this game looks kinda ugly?
In all fairness, I think a good 60-80 percent of 3D graphics in games is bad. But for the past decade or so, sonic games have been using this cyber/holographic aesthetic for their hud and UI elements, which has mostly boiled down to making things glow neon colors and putting grids on things. It ends up feeling really cheep looking and kinda powerpoint-clipart-esque.

Also, if I can be an "um, actually" nerd for a sec, I HATE the Speedy render. They made his head/chest green with a white bottom, but if you look at the actual Tails' Adventure art, he is obviously a white bird that is wearing a green helmet.

like you can even see the straps behind his head, it's clearly meant to be a helmet. Now he's now just a weird ugly pinhead baby with a big diaper on. Such an aura loss.

Genuinely is there like somewhere I can email Rovio or whoever? His new render is so ugly this might be the thing to turn me into one of those "Ian Flynn ruined Sonic" kind of fans.

 

I want to congratulate you on being the first person to say that Speedy ever had aura to begin with.



My stance is that Speedy's best design was Archie. He already looks like a hy-bird of Jet and Bean, might as well just go the full yards and let him look like a cool third wheel. He never even had Goggles in his original design, so you might as well just let him have the style.

 

I'm sorry, speedy always looked like he's wearing a diaper.

Archie's the one that started this in the first place. It is the source of my ire.
I drew this diagram to illustrate how wrong you are.

 

The issue with it being a helmet is that it covers the contours of his face so perfectly that you can't even really tell where it's supposed to end. At least with Charmy there's a cutoff where it wraps around and a red trim to clearly define the edge. I don't know that there's a single sprite or drawing that shows Speedy's head is actually white.

Oh, and Bluwolf has confirmed that the funny penises on all the datamined models aren't the result of any bug, the guy ripping them just added them on purpose as a childish joke.

 

Well, as I pointed out originally, his official artwork has straps dangling from his head that are presumably meant to fasten his helmet. Can't really think of what else they would be.

Additionally, there is art of other members of the Kukku army where it is more clear that they are meant to be wearing helmets.

Given the similarities between all the kukku enemies, I think the intention was pretty clearly meant to be that they are all white birds wearing combinations of military helmets and shirts/battle armor

 

I wasn't saying you were wrong, I'm saying it's a really annoying way to design the characters.

I wonder if Sega has any concept art from these lesser important sonic titles lying around anywhere- and if they did, if Rovio would've even gotten access to them to use as reference. Lots of little character design details from this era get lost if you are only using in game sprites as reference, something I liked was the original concept art for Fang that showed his head is meant to resemble Opa Opa.

 

We have to keep in mind how much of this is placeholder too.

 

The character names and descriptions, sure. I feel like if something's already modeled and animated you're probably locked-in on the character's base design.

The character names and descriptions definitely are placeholders, as it's unclear if SEGA is truly wiling to add them into the game. To be frank, I don't really expect them to but will be pleasantly surprised if they actually make the cut.

 

We're kinda in uncharted territory here, I'm not sure anything like this has ever happened with a Sonic game before. It's extremely unlikely that most or even any of the name-only characters will make it in...based on what we knew up until now. But the rules are fleeting and the staff is changing, so who knows. All I know is that if it does happen, Ian deserves an apology after fighting for these characters for over seven years only for the ones who finally get to do it to be the fucking Angry Birds people.

 

Sonic Blitz and Sonic Rumble are cool names, why are they wasting the best names on mobile games

I had absolutely no idea who the hell "Speedy" was when I woke up today but I'm now fully convinced that they have removed his aura and swag

 

Uhh... holy fucking shit. Never in a million years would I have believed that we'd be seeing half of these characters, much less visual and narrative elements from the Archie comic (as evidenced by Antoine and Bunnie having a combo attack) ever again. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they had Michael Jackson's Sonic 3 tracks on this game's soundtrack.

Then again, I guess we should've seen this coming the very moment they canonized the name Abraham Tower. Remains to be seen if we'll also see some of the other Archie-exclusive oddities that survived the reboot, such as Conquering Storm or Nicole's Lynx design.

Damn, somehow it never occurred to me that the Battle Kukkus have such a blatantly fascist aesthetic. These motherfuckers look like something straight out of Helldivers, or from a furry parody version anyway.
