"Sonic Blitz" softlaunched on mobile devices, digital collectible card game by Rovio

Either filling out a contract with Apple Arcade or Netflix. They also don't seem to be concerned about self competition in that space since they continue to support Speed Battle and Dash with Dash 2 being on life support, Sonic Speed Simulator existing through Roblox as well.

Idk, I'm leaning back towards this ending up being some slot machine we don't see for 4 years.

 

I don't have much to say about this, just one thing:
Those who think that Sonic Blitz doesn't sound like a mainline title, Sonic Colors sounded like an edusoft game for the Sega Pico.

It could be anything, but I can agree that "Blitz" gives the impression of being something very short and fast, not a full adventure but maybe a minigame or something. Sounds like a spin-off, but it can be anything really.

 

Out of nowhere, Sonic Blitz has been released as a public beta for iOS and Android exclusively in the Philippines, and it appears to be a card-collecting battle game akin to Marvel Snap being developed by Rovio. Already data miners have found some very interesting things in the Android APK. Images being posted on X include a resource list with references to Archie Sonic (!) characters as well as models of Captain Whisker from Sonic Rush Adventure and Lanolin the Sheep, and tumblr user Chipistrate has found models of Dr Fukurokov from Tails Adventure and what appears to be a Modern design for Mighty the Armadillo!

No fucking way this actually gets added in. Rovio just looked up characters and put them here.

 

I figure they're using nostalgia to lure people into downloading this game and then hitting them with predatory monetization tactics.

 

If they're pushing a Sonic TCG, it's not surprising that they'd get as much representation from as many sources as possible. If it was JUST the games, sooner or later they'd have to start making purely original cards. Hell, they might do that too.

Crazy if true. Just straight up trawling the Wiki and throwing whatever they find into the game is one hell of a strategy.

 

I'm starting to question the logistics financially of making a compatible 3D model of literally every Sonic character ever, for a mobile card game of all things. Something's not adding up.

 

It seems like a lot of character descriptions being posted on social media are taken straight from the Fandom wiki. I'm not ruling out the possibility that they're placeholders or something, but right now, I'm not trusting inclusions that don't have a character model.

 

This game compelled me to finally give myself a profile pic for this site. The gameplay doesn't look like my cup of tea, but I don't really give a damn. Gimme those assets. My boy is back! In 2 delicious flavors!
