I will be meeting Rachael Leigh Cook and attending a Josie and the Pussycats panel this weekend (hopefully recording it) and am watching one of her other big movies, "She's All That".

In the movie, Matthew Lillard in true fashion is portrayed as a host of the show "The Real World" and guess what's in the background, a set of Manx TT cabinets.

At about 30 min into the movie, Laney's little brother Simon high five's Zach and says "Zach my man!.... Wanna play some Sega?" Then proceeds to quote the (in)famous 90's American "SSSSEGA" chant that appeared on all the IN-YOUR-FACE commercials Sega produced in the 90s. Lmao

I've been playing The Getaway on the PS2. It's a game I knew nothing about until relatively recently - it's like if Driver and GTA had a baby... and then the hospital caught fire. I'll post more thoughts in that "beaten in 2025" topic in the days and weeks to come.

The Getaway isn't notable for being "good", but it's a technical feat - it simulates a good chunk of London, circa 2002. And it doesn't pull any punches - such is the attention to detail that you'll find McDonalds, Burger King and KFC all in the same game... and you can drive my previous next door neighbour's Citroen Saxo. Licensing be damned, I guess.

So the question I had: does it have Sega World? SegaWorld London was gone by 2002, but remnants were still in service, and there was no guarantee the developers were using up-to-date photographs. The game isn't nice enough to provide you with an in-game map (and spoilers: I don't live in London), but if you can find an obvious landmark, you can use a real world map to work out where you are. In my case, I accidentally found Broadcasting House, and was able to trace the root down to where the Trocadero is.

But there is no Sega World.

The bit above entrance the where Sonic once stood is modelled (without Sonic), but the entrance is a flat, blurry texture of what looks like a typical shopping mall. And fair enough, this is probably accurate for what it looked like in 2002, but ehh. The Planet Hollywood next door is very much there though. Other Sega venues in the London area are too far away.

However, had the game released when originally planned, as a launch title for the console in 2000, perhaps Sega World would have featured.
