I always like to view this as less of an oversight and more of a deliberate design choice - Sonic can't win by dwelling in the past. You must face the present and future to carry on.

Yep. Totally intentional metaphor for the human experience.

OK! Dino version, no extra platform like they claim, but the spring is higher so you can reach the platform no problem. This is the big box retail dino version from 1995, the original first press which I bought when it was new.

EDIT: ACTUALLY, looking at the pic, it ISN'T higher, but it still gets you to the ledge no problem... weird.

It flings you and clip through the bottom of the ledge, but you reach the top easily.

I always took this to be a brilliant feature but not in a metaphorical kind of way-- this only ever happens in the very last regular level, and the weirdest one at that. It did make me feel like Metallic Madness is quite literally not finished in the Past, so it doesn't work properly yet. Which tracks, because most if not all levels in the Past are under construction.

Wish they did that on purpose.

The extra platforms were only added for the 2011 version. If you have a Gems Collection copy this can be verified there as well. I guess the wiki editor just assumed the 2011 fix was imported from the PC version since that one was the first to fix the layout.

are you reading this topic? The 2011 version doesn't have extra platforms, that's what the entire conversation is about. No versions have extra platforms, that's apparently misinformation. After checking all others, the only version left to check was the Dino port, and that doesn't have the extra platforms either. No version has extra platforms.

The extra platforms are clearly visible at 1:03. Don't know what you're talking about.

Tell the OP, since it's the opening line:

"The '11 remake has the past spring at 14px below the other three time periods and makes the trip to the higher level fine, while completely avoiding the added extra platforms described as being needed to advance in the '96 PC port."

I guess since I knew the 2011 versions had the platforms I just read that backwards. They were likely removed in later mobile-only versions (that ended up being used in Origins) and that wasn't documented.

They're definitely still there on the XLBA port and 2011 PC version, though. At least the mystery is solved.
