"Sonic Blitz" softlaunched on mobile devices, digital collectible card game by Rovio

"Sonic Battle Blitz" sounds like a real game title, at least.

 

I would have to pinch myself if they're actually doing a Power Stone-type game cause I've wanted Sonic to pick up that mantle for decades now. 'Blitz' is a pretty perfect word to describe party fighter gameplay and Sonic Battle always did feel like a bit of a tech demo.

 

Just call that the "Dark Story".

 

I will be surprised if it's a plataforming fighting game.

 

Is it? 'Blitz' is more fitting for some speed-focused, constantly on the move, gameplay. I can't really imagine a fighter game with this kind of name.

 

I think of the word 'blitz' as meaning more of an assault or heavy bombardment, as a verb it's more about a fast paced but aggressive attack. Everyone already knows Sonic is fast anyways so I don't think they need to emphasize that lol

A party fighter with this name could be pretty cool.

 

If it's not a sport... Heavy bombardment... Aggressive, possibly visually... Vague enough to be side-title material... SEGA's general existence... Setbacks in the slots business... Increased growth due to Sonic game sales and social media...

Yes, Power Stone and Power Stone 2 are coming back to modern systems this May in " Capcom Fighting Collection 2 " . that sort of makes me think an actual new Power Stone game isn't on the way yet. And, seemingly Super Smash Ultimate will first be ported to Switch 2 instead of them trying to somehow follow it up, so, there is enough open space for a unique Sonic interpretation of either kind of game.

 

Believe it or not, that could genuinely happen one of these days.

Sega's recently got back into making interactive kiddie rides for arcades. And this is what they've returned to them with, of all things:


(come on Sega, you know you want to reskin it to be a 'children's copaganda with Sonic' sequel instead)

A game set during the bombing of London in WW2 and you want Tails to be the one doing the bombing?

 

I hadn't really thought of that. I just like flying planes and blowing things up.

Putting some thought into it, Tails would work better as an RAF pilot.

 

I'd love for it to be co-op, somehow, someway, whatever it is.

 

Realistic Prediction: This is probably a best a spinoff game and at worst another mobile title. Granted, I think the Sonic series DOES need more frequent recurrent spinoff series like Mario has, so Blitz being the start of a sub series like one dedicated to fighting or puzzles or whatever doesn't sound too bad. Personally I've wanted a new Sonic fighting for YEARS now, and the word "Blitz" does kind of give me the high octane feeling a fighting game title would probably want to give off.

Unrealistic Prediction: This is somehow the next mainline Sonic entry. I don't think it is, the name alone doesn't sound befitting, but then again I suppose something like "Superstars" or "Heroes" do either. If this were somehow the case, then I imagine this would be a 2D game specifically, since I can't see the next 3D Sonic game being anything but a successor to the base established by Frontiers even if I'd love an Adventure duology remake or something along those lines. If it IS a new 2D Sonic, which is again very unlikely, I hope they actually do something like a follow up to the Advance games rather than just a "Superstars 2" like title, because that would be frankly really boring.

I really feel like it's unlikely that it's another mobile game. We already have Rumble on the horizon, why be so quick to make another mobile title?

 

If it is another Sonic the Fighters game I am down, as we have been requesting an officially released Sonic fighter for years now. If it is another mobile game, I will likely just quietly roll my eyes.
