"Sonic Blitz" softlaunched on mobile devices, digital collectible card game by Rovio

It doesn't seem to be a mobile game considering the "software for home video game consoles" thing.

 

this made me nostalgic for blitzsonic and I ended up finding the most 2009 video ever

 

I thought the thumbnail was was 2009 enough, but then I hit play and the music started playing. And then they opened up notepad to start narrating the video. Bloody hell...

 

A game about the London blitz where the player takes the role of the bombers would be a bold move even for a non-Sonic game

 

The wording isn't up front here but "class 9" covers mobile apps just as well as regular old video games (at the very least this article here says so), "class 41" covers a lot of different things including online games, arcades, and, actually, casinos, all 3 of which sound plausible to go alongside the name "Sonic Blitz"


I'm not a trademark lawyer though so I don't understand the significance of the stuff at the very bottom either lol

 

Might be the name of the project, like "Sonic Rangers".
Was that name trademarked too?

 

Sonic Blitz could be a mainline name but it doesn't flow as a sequel name to Frontiers to me so I'm pretty sure it's something else. The word 'blitz' seems to imply some kind of multiplayer focus.

 

I don't think so. Like Sonic Toys Party, Sonic Rangers never officially existed in the public knowledge. Once a name for a Sonic game has been trademarked, it's typically the name of an actual product rather than just an internal project name. Internal projects have no reason to be trademarked. And SEGA aren't in the habit of taking out trademarks to cover bases like some other companies seem to do either.

 

Guys, I cracked the code:

Sonic Toys Party / Rumble -> Fall Guys-like multiplayer
Sonic Rangers/Frontiers -> BotW-like open world
Sonic Blitz -> Sega's take on the Astro Bot-formula?

 

Oh man, they're making Sonic's first 3D platformer?

 

Clearly it's a sequel to NFL blitz starring sonic characters

 

what's the timeframe on a trademark being filed to official reveal? If I remember right Sonic Frontiers was trademarked in November 2021 and we got an official announcement at the Game Awards the next month. I think the Sonic & Friends thing was revealed a month after its trademark too right? We could hear about this pretty soon in that case.

 

It sounds kinda 90ish. Like a game for 32X or Saturn.

A quick browse of Sega's current job listings reveals they are presently hiring people at Division 2 (home of Sonic Team) to work on a "3D battle action game".

If we're getting Sonic Battle redux, that's not something I had on my Sega 2025 bingo card.

 

There is that, but if it were for SoR you'd think they'd mention it in the first job listing (like others for existing titles, including the second one) since it's been in the public domain for well over a year now.

Meanwhile all the listings for Sonic in particular are less genre-specific - presumably not to literally give the game away.
