Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Thread (& Knuckles)

Watched the second one today with my class for our winter break party lol. Honestly it holds up. Genuinely amped to see #3

 

IGN did this video where Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter and James Marsden play Sonic Adventure 2 which was pretty funny. obviously it goes without saying, but don't expect any high level play here lol.

 

I just got back from the theatre and I feel like a changed man. I wasn't around for Sonic Adventure 2, and I couldn't understand why it was held on the throne that it was by older fans, but I get it now. There are some things I would've changed, but they're so small that, as far as I'm concerned, this was legit the perfect Sonic movie. Non-stop action for nearly 2 hours that it felt like I was holding my breath the entire time. And it actually has me worried about Sonic 4 because how do you even top that? Also I can't even lie, I cried like 4 times.

 

Due to my schedule, I probably won't be seeing it during its opening weekend. I really would like to, though. I am hearing mostly positive things about it except for only a couple really negtive reviews. So, I can't wait. Unfortunately, I did get spoiled even though I was avoiding spoilers. I clicked on YouTube a couple days ago and the post-credits scene was right in my face and there was no avoiding it. I didn't click on it but it was enough to know what the reveal is. Sigh.

Just watched Sonic 3. Just pips S2 as the best movie IMO. Enjoyed Reeves performance as Shadow. As with the previous movies Carrey & Majdoub play the best human characters by a mile. Carrey looked like he was having a lot of fun & Majdoub's first appearance was so boss! There's a few cheesy moments and the plot-twists are so predictable but it's still a good story and SA2 gets so much love. There's a post-credits scene which is easily the best one in the movie franchise. Will definitely watch this again.

I wouldn't have minded if the movie franchise ended here, but we know Sonic 4 is in development. Gonna be difficult to top S3.

 

They made 7 live action Transformers movies. They're not going to stop until the well is dry.

 

Saw the movie at a fan event last night. I'm struggling to make any coherent thoughts about it besides, Holy. Fucking. Hell. We did not ask for, nor did we deserve this incredible greatness.

Unlike the first two, this one dives straight into the action, and is all but relentless in that regard, right up to the climax. But there is nevertheless plenty of humor sprinkled in (Carrey as usual outdoes himself, times two), and some surprisingly powerful emotional moments surrounding Shadow's character (and Reeve's performance was outstanding). Going to be seeing it again tomorrow with a friend.

And for those who have not seen it, there are TWO post-credits scenes: one before the scroll, and one after the scroll but before the closing Paramount logo. Hang tight a bit longer than the last two. ;>

 

Really gotta give a hand to Fowler, Hockey here, and the rest of the Sonic film team. What an absolutely amazing journey from the disastrous reveal of the first film, the Covid Comeback, and navigating the Hollywood strikes. People can argue about the details, but these guys clearly put their heart and soul into these films and are rightfully deserving of the #1 film on Christmas week against a massive Disney movie. Everyone was ready to hand Mufasa the crown a month ago, but once again these bastards beat all the odds.

Ok I watched it. It is a good movie. It has its moments. It got a little too 'learn something'-y a couple times but it wasn't too tedious at least. I do think it has some charm. I kind of dug the general story arc for the most part because it gets weird enough at times. I do have a big complaint but I will leave that for the spoiler thread. And, with what the actors did with their parts I enjoyed.

Sonic 3 is currently tracking to open to $70m+. It has a massive power gap against Mufasa which is looking at a $36m-$38m opening.

We won't know how Sonic 3 will fair in the international market until next week, but Mufasa is not off to a great start. It was originally projected in the $180m range, but so far it's tracking for a $125m opening. Oof.

Also, which one of you Silver heads are hanging out in the Deadline comments.

I just got back from seeing it and... yeah, it was good! Best of this cinematic universe by far; lots of fun action and nods to the games. There's a few cringe jokes/moments here and there but overall it was a lot of fun. Wish I got to see it with a more packed/Sonic fan audience but my half-full theater seemed to enjoyed it. Will share spoiler-y thoughts in the thread for that.

And yes, there are post credit scenes, so stay all the way through!

 

I really enjoyed it though have the nagging feel it could have been a little better, pushed a little further.

gotta say that it was a real surprise getting The Last Scene in the soundtrack, and then later finding it’s called Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog is really nice.

Sums it up perfectly for me.

Sonic 3 takes a stab at digging up all the feelings SA2 buried within our souls 20 years ago, but doesn't quite get to the core of said feelings, is how I'd put it.

Also, shout-outs to another kid who spilled his drink on me. Don't worry, it's all fine.
