Nah I would fight them even without sonic 3 in the picture, it just looks bad and soulless , somehow even more than the previous remake which i didn't think it was possible

All I'm saying is that we have no right to complain about a soulless cashgrab blockbuster which doesn't capture the brilliance of its source material when we're excited for a new live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

What do you mean? Fans criticising the smallest things in a new piece of media has always been in the soul of Sonic the Hedgehog. The new live action movie captures that perfectly!

I’d consider “almost every aspect of the movies outside sort of the character design” a bit more than a small aspect, but okay. lol

    Also…

I just randomly saw this on my YouTube homepage feed. Mostly unfunny. And it for the most part makes no impression whatsoever, (kind of like the story of JJK itself) but the first bit is actually shocking. There is no way that was a coincidence. That is too on point. Did they really reference Jumidsu Kaisen?

Lads, for the past year I've been on this forum the most divisive conversation people consistently had have been about the mere existence of Sonic's various source materials, and that's not inherently including the movies. It’s honestly really nothing new, and it’s how we got the Sonic 4 ‘no friends’ launch campaign, and we’ve seen how that’s turned out.

This may be a tall ask, but imagine the thing you despise most about Sonic… What if we just, like, said ‘Yes’ to things instead of ‘No’? For a solid two weeks, just ‘Yes, and’ into something creatively comfortable to your liking. I think we might end up happier folk in the end?

Note: The tone of this post is meaner than I intended, so I apologize!!

yeah it's a rare thing where the first movie very clearly started as, and still mostly is, a bunch of execs going "hello fellow kids" with a format a decade too late, somehow having it succeed right before a pandemic happened, and then...actually letting the crew stray further from that easy cookie-cutter concept in the next films? usually when something is successful they're terrified of changing it, but compare even scenes from Sonic 3's trailers to anything from the first movie and it's just so different!

Saving all of this for when Mufasa's final gross is 200 to 300 million more than Sonic 3.

This reminds me of when I was having conversations with people on how big Wicked would be and many people told me that's not true because they didn't know anyone interested themselves.

This is because 72% of Wicked's first weekend audience were women and many weren't the type to regularly go to the movies. Going to events like Barbiehiemer and the like. But instead of looking at objective facts (based on a popular stage play, quality musicals tends to make a lot of money, wizard of oz is still a big property) they let their personal biases determine how they felt the movie would do.

Mufasa is a sequel to Lion King 2019 which JUST got dethroned as the biggest animated movie of all time by Inside Out 2. Another Disney movie and a sequel.

Deadpool 3 and Moana 2, other sequels that got good reception, both did extremely well with Deadpool 3 being the second highest grossing movie of the year. And Moana 2 is tracking to be the third. Disney sequels that are considered to be quality tend to always be successful.

If Mufusa is at least a 6/10 it will easily clear 600 to 800 million. Lion King is considered to be an "adult friendly" property too.

My grandparents went to see the Lion King stage play earlier this year by themselves, when it came to my city, and they're in their 70's! I would have gone too but I'm waiting for my next watch to be in actual NYC.

Sonic is a great franchise, and I know 99% of people on here are adults, but it's still a family franchise and one that is primarily written with children in mind.

There's unfortunately a cap for these type of movies and 500 to 700 million will be it.

This is nothing to sneeze at and it's something they should be proud of, but that's just how things are going to go.

Most of the discussion on here is on opening domestic projections though.

I still think Sonic is gonna beat Mufasa domestically. I see the numbers and hear the reasoning, and I know you guys are probably correct... but my gut says otherwise.

People care about Moana and Deadpool as characters...

Like, I get that people like The Lion King as a franchise... but do people care about Mufasa as a character? I dunno.

    Please don't overcook my crow.:eng99:

This movie will do well enough for a fourth one where Steve Buscemi's Silver will appear and go "Am I dabbing right, Knuckles?" at some point, and that's all that matters to me.

Doesn't really matter. Lion King name is attached. As much as people clown on these live action movies being souless on social media, general audiences still go watch it.

I think both films are gonna be running a very tight race in their opening. Tracking favors Sonic right now, but that could all be frontloaded. Mufasa will probably have way stronger legs if the word of mouth is strong and overtake Sonic in overall gross.

From an exhibition POV though, all boats rising is very good. Good synergy helps exhibition and studios meet their bottom line. Paramount also going to be squeezing the hell out of Sonic after how poorly the last few Transformers films did. TMNT only did ok for them so Sonic's their golden goose for family product right now.

Who would have thought back in 1994 that there would one day be a competing release between a Lion King and a Sonic movie?

Faking yeses until someone snaps? Sounds like a plan. Make 'em feel validated in their craft before you desert them. Makes it so much more heartbreaking in the end. :V

I object to "soulless cashgrab" in as strong terms as possible.
