Game has a big sale going on for consoles by the way. You can find it at most retailers for $29.99.

    $37.49 on Steam
No sale on EGS at this time

Something I forgot in my list of "cool things for a future patch maybe", more Dualsense effects for both Sonic and Shadow, but especially Generations, really could have used more of that. I'd like to feel the surfaces that Sonic's running on as I move through the stages.

What effects does it currently have, if any? Thinking of picking up the PS5 version.

Ok, so I just bought Sonic Frontiers.

Shadow Generations is 3D Sonic FINALLY perfected. Going to Sonic Generations was not initially a pleasurable experience. I started that after I pretty much beat Shadow’s story.

Sonic Frontiers feels a little more clunky, granted I just started it.

    It doesn't get better.

You can fine tune the controls in the options menu though. There's s bunch of sliders buried in one of the sub menus.

My tin foil hat hopes they're harvesting this data, and applying these settings to future sonic games.

Gonna suck when the data comes back useless because most people don't know about it.

I mean…Shadow Generations is the best controlling 3D Sonic we’ve had since the Adventure games, if not ever. I think it’s very likely they were collecting data from Frontiers and, by some freak of nature, have actually drawn the right conclusion from it.

I am quite astonished by how Shadow Gens controls so well after Sonic Frontiers had the worst controls in series history. Especially in 2D. In fact, even more astonishing is Frontiers having the worst 2D Sonic sections of all time and Shadow Generatoons having the best Boost 2D sections since Rush. A jaw-dropping turnaround.

  14. The game uses haptic feedback, the DualSense controller's refined rumble system. This is more noticeable in Shadow Generations than in Sonic Generations.
Besides that, the ring sounds play through the speaker on the DualSense controller instead of through your normal speakers. This sounded odd at first, but you get used to it pretty quickly.
Because of these features the PS5 version is the best console version in my opinion. It also looks great and runs smooth at 60 fps.

for sonic it's mostly just very specific things like the springs, it's a little jarring when it does happen for something like Classic Sonic which isn't what you want for the effect. For Shadow any time you boost (which is pretty much any time you're doing anything) it basically feels like a very specific rumble effect. They also play sound effects for some things like picking up rings though the controller.

my complaint is specifically that it's underutilized so i don't think it's really a deciding factor but also I didn't expect to have these features at all so I guess I can't complain too much.

Hard disagree with the ring sound coming out of the PS5 controller. I have a little one and thus my gaming time tends to be limited to after he goes to sleep at night, so I have to keep the volume down pretty low. I was pretty horrified when a blaring loud ring sound started coming out of my PS5 controller; I turned that setting off immediately. Was quite a surprise too because Frontiers and Superstars didn’t have that issue.

  17. I don't see the problem when you can turn the setting off. I like it so I leave it on. I guess the PS5 version has something for everyone. Ring sound through the controller and if you don't like it turn it off.
You could also use headphones so you don't have to turn the volume down.

I think it’s a bit of a problem if it’s the default setting. At least ask me if I want it on or off when first booting the game instead of forcing it on from the get go.

Feel like i am in the minority who prefers how Frontiers controls in general, maybe solely because of the added spin dash, but i was finding myself in shadow generations thinking how i could reach somewhere if i had Frontiers control but i don't so it felt a bit more limiting, especially in the white space

also things like bouncing or rail boosting, or even the pretty much unintended freezing in air using the parry, all add to feeling more in control to sonic and having more freedom on how to navigate the levels. of course Shadow generations is excellent still, but it didn't came out of thin air, they pretty much built on the base of Frontiers with their own tweaks to make Shadow more distinctive

I like that Frontiers is more manual, making you actually engage with enemies in your path since you can't just boost through everything, as well as the pseudo-triple jump the air boost gives you. But Shadow is more polished, I feel like I'm not making such a commitment when homing attacking, and the gravity follows a much more natural-feeling curve. Launching off stuff with the spindash lends an incredible air of freedom in Frontiers, but it also trivializes Both games have the "giving you worse turning in stages than the open zone for no fucking reason" problem, but Shadow Generations compensates for it...mostly by having the stages and camera make turns for you. They're both doing too much work to accomodate something that shouldn't be a real problem to begin with.

That said, Shadow gets the leg-up for naturally having better 2D, better-adjusted turning relative to its stage design (even if it should not be fucking happening), better air control (especially at low speeds), and not resetting your speed every time you jump without boosting. I still think it should have the regenerative Frontiers boost, since at this point they're clearly just giving you the resources to keep it filled without even trying. Though it is kind of hilarious to see Shadow called a "jaw-dropping turnaround" from "the worst controls in the series history" when they're really not that different.
