Spotify is really fucking incompetent at assigning music tracks to the correct artists.

I'm willing to bet that this is just a case of some kid uploading Sonic music to Spotify, with the algorithm automatically assigning it to the official Sonic profile.

I think a remake is happening but I don't think it's going to be the unreal engine as the devs working at sega do not have experience with it.

The earliest rumors about the remake stated it was in UE5 entirely for the purpose of learning to use the engine
You can't get experience if you don't get your hands dirty.

One thing I do like about Sonic Heroes is its distinct visual design in both its somewhat over-the-top character models and saturated world landscapes. I get the gut feeling a lot of that is going to be downplayed if not snuffed out entirely in a hypothetical remake.

Honestly after shadow gens i think they can do it, that model can clearly look good when its animated well

they just have to actually try with the animations again :v

The current models are ugly and I won't pretend that they're not.

Are they better animated in ShGens? Absolutely. But they're not good.

Definitely the aspect of the remake I fear the most. Curse the ones who decided it would be best to completely throw away their legacy models in favor of every game matching the Unleashed models even when they don't serve the overall art style.

I think Heroes was the first instance of really ugly models in these games and they've never recovered since, so it's a lose-lose situation for me

I guess they are a different brand of ugly, but still, both set of models are all weird and lanky and not nearly as appealing as the original Dreamcast Adventure 1's models. I just accepted that Sonic looks kind of ugly in 3D

I'd be fine with the Heroes models if the fur wasn't plastic looking. If anything, I'd say they're probably some of the closest to adapting Uekawa's art. So I wouldn't say they're ugly, just need some polishing... Er... Anti-polishing?

I think the Unleashed model looked and animated great for a 360/PS3 game 16 years ago and the CG cutscenes in Unleashed still hold up great. But they're way past their experation date at this point.

What's so wrong about the Unleashed and Generations Sonic models? They look great in those two games.

I don't think there's anything wrong with most of the models; ShGens even proves they work well when animated properly. I think people are just bored of seeing them and want a change-up.

I think Knuckles's model is a bit bla, but otherwise I like the current models before they shortened Sonic's quills in Frontiers.

The pixar look Imo doesn't actually suit the series very well. They're serviceable but not actually all that interesting to look at and don't really get the sharpness, expressiveness, and attitude in Uekawa's art across very well which should be the goal.

I get that they served as an "oasis" from the increasingly lanky humanoid sonic of the 2000s but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be scrutinized imo.

  17. The models are in the same category as the asset reuse, it's a cost cutting measure. They essentially future proofed the models to be used indefinitely with minor tweaks here and there.

Which, to be fair, is much easier on the developers as opposed to making new models every couple of years, but I understand why it's pretty annoying as consumer to see the same models being reused and wanting a shake up every now and then.

It'd be nice to see them shake it up and try to get closer to the 2D art in a 3D game, but I've never seen anything to prove they can successfully do that. People claim that the Heroes or Storybook/Olympics models are "closer to Uekawa's art" but I don't agree; they also look really off in their own ways. I've even seen some people try to argue the 06 designs are closer (and therefore "better") but those kids can get shoved in a locker.

Anyways, Sonic Team seems pretty set in designing their character models in this style, and I'm personally fine with that. I'd rather them make the best of what we've got than change it and do a worse job.

Maybe others are more willing to embrace the risk, but I trust Sonic Team too little to do that. Sonic's design from Forces onward has been a stiffer and paler edit of the Unleashed/Gens model, and that's just with incremental changes. I fear what they'd do if told to change more lol.

  19. It's kind of ironic to see Sonic Team so set in their ways now to the point of stagnation when that's exactly was their biggest problem before in refusing to settle on any of their ideas.

There are methods that a lot of modern games are using to preserve 2D art direction. This is all cheaper than hyperrealism too if applied the right way.

Imo it's past time to at least experiment. The current models are really flabby,, soft and stiff. They stopped feeling modern a long time ago. If it doesn't work that's just one Sonic game with a weird artstyle out of the 50 on shelves using the house style.
