Has it been 9 years? Life is stranger than fiction sometimes...

Microsoft Paint for Windows XP, some custom import tools, and a few bits in SonED2.

But these probably won't help you, each to their own, you may fair better with more familiar tools. It's not the tools you use, it's how you use them. You'd probably be better asking in the Q&A thread if you're looking for advice on stuff like this.

Thanks for the flash back though

  2. Yes haha, 9 years later.
I'm researching a lot of hacks/developments, both old and new, to extract ideas for developing an engine (Seek Engine, still in development).
Again, congratulations on the hack! and thanks for answering.

9 years and still pretty much the high water mark on my brain for fan made levels. Any time I get a new device that can play Genesis games, this is my go-to to break it in.

Sweet, a fellow MS Paint user in here : ) That explains the awesome sprites from it. The hack is still a giant eye candy to me, especially act 2 foreground palettes rotations ⭐

Some of the most exciting, intriguing level design, imo, out of any Sonic, 2D or otherwise!! There is some path i found in Act 1 only once, and i still can't figure out how to reach the upside down 1UP !!

The complete game provides such an interesting exploration of momentum in Sonic environments and interactive play. A unique palette of phenomena that we experience whenever we play through it, is what i remember and always brings me back to this!! as with the recent Giovanni's Level Pack 2 , this is also in some ways a glimpse into what Sonic zones can become when level creators like Studio do eventually reach the community!!
