Xbox One users actually benefited from this, the original Sonic Generations only ran at 720p on the Xbox One and despite the Xbox One X running at 4K the game never received an FPS boost, so now they can finally play at 60fps.

It will be funny if the Xbox One X version runs at 4K/60fps because that will probably be higher than the Xbox Series S.

 

Hey so how exactly am I supposed to do those straight vertical swings with the Doom Morph? I've encountered 2 spots where they want me to move straight up, but I got no clue how I'm supposed to do that. Swinging normally will despawn the anchor like halfway through, and doing a normal homing attack doesn't give me any verticality, so???

 

Think of the Doom Morph swing like shooting a pool cue. Your angle is retained through the launch, and you can release the swing early. If you release when Shadow is at the very bottom of his swing, you'll launch directly up.

It's not explained super clearly, but once it clicks it becomes a lot easier to work with.

 

Has he really? It looks like he has credits as recently as this year. I understand some of that could be archival or just backed up but that would kinda suck if he was never in the cards in the first place. It would've been pretty hype to hear him back.

My big thing with the voice is it doesn't really even sound like they went in with a vision. He ends up sounding like the angsty older (by one year) brother of Silver that Silver would try to emulate.

And then I looked at the cast trying to see who played him - Robbie Daymond? Is it really? Nothing against him, I liked it when he was Spider-Man, and maybe I don't know his range but... Wow.

 

Now I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but there's been a recent finding for movement options for Shadow Gens

Using Chaos Spear after an Air Boost or Mid-Air Movement can allow for further mid-air travel

I'd say this is the source of that find

I've been experimenting with this find since, I'm telling you, it has been SUCh a game changer for me.

I should clarify, you don't have to constantly use Chaos Spear, only once during the tech will suffice. I just happen to be impulsive and have quite the trigger-fingers.

 

Finally managed to track down the last of the chests in White Space. Only thing I'm missing at this point is one rocket part. Wish there was an easier way to find them.

 

Good luck, I went absolutely crazy begging for someone to help me in discord for any kind of guide and eventually found them. The reward is NOT worth it unless you like achievement hunting. Sonic Team is trolling with that "reward" and they know it.

Eh, I came this far, I figured I might as well see it through. In the time since I wrote that, I managed to find them all, so it's a moot point, but there really should be something you can unlock to make it easier.

 

It's probable that I'm wrong, but as I understand it, he retired from voice acting years ago after his wife passed away and he was left to take care of his kids, so he decided to focus on them rather than his career. Very honorable thing to do.

Unrelated, but... man, I wish they tested the drop dash in Sonic's side more, because that thing is both janky and cumbersome at times. I've stopped dead enough times that it's discouraging to use it. Also, I have no idea why Modern Sonic even has it considering how liberal boost meter is in this game.

 

PS5 and Series X have performance and fidelity mode options for Shadow Gens. Any idea what that changes in terms of resolution and FPS?

 

Currently chasing sub 3:00 on Chaos Island 1 (Doom Wing). Having knowledge of how you're actually meant to use Morph makes it so much more enjoyable, but the best part is the clutch of being able to skip a bunch of those sections so long as you can make your boost count. It helps that this level actually has bunch of pathing options (I'd struggle to call them full alternate routes). Terrific fun.

 

Doom Morph is a terribly implemented ability and I hate using it. But that one thing aside, Chaos Island 1 deserves serious praise. It's brilliantly designed.

 

Once I understood how to use it, I realize the problem with the Doom Morph is that it's too complicated for what little it does and isn't seemless like the other powers.

I like that holding and letting go of the button are two different actions but it'd for too convoluted in the little time you have to use it and especially in the specific challenges the game puts you through. The ground controls are also below the standard of the rest of the game, and I don't know why they made the boost a little dash.

It's not horrible or anything but this is an idea that needs more work when the rest of the powers are honestly pretty perfect.

 

Where is the fidelity mode option? Not that I planned on using it but I looked through the options and was surprised it wasn't there. I thought the game was locked at 1080p 60fps and not 4k 60fps which would make even having a fidelity mode sort of worthless unless it was 8k.

 

Done a playthrough of Sonic Gens on PS5 (and played a few acts of Shadow's story).

I was pleasantly suprised they've included the option to switch between no lives and the finite-lives system from the original release and no ugly COINS on the screen either. So simple, so easy. It's what they should have done with Colours Ultimate & Origins 16:9 modes.

As for the dialogue changes, kinda pointless to be honest but some of Flynn's new lines are at least a slight improvement over the original cringey dialogue. It's nice that modern Sonic now talks to Knuckles after restoring him instead of saying nothing, lol.

 

On consoles, it's the very last setting under visual options within ShGens. There are no different visual modes in SoGens.

 

Just wanted to come back to this and explain a bit more of my take on it. I'm not about to go digging for my old post but my call was that the Black Arms would be revealed to be a divergent evolution of the Ancients, a clan that split off after they landed on earth and gradually became their own branch of the species. To expand on that a bit more, given that they seem to primarily be spacefarers, they have become what they are due to the vacuum of space requiring adaptation for the highly water-based bodies of the Ancients to sustain long term, but that's getting into the weeds of fanwankery.

I was hoping for this specific thing because of some minor similarities between Chaos and the Black Arms, as well as the links both the Ancients and the Black Arms have to the Chaos Emeralds, but I do understand the desire for things to actively not be connected. It's certainly not something I want as a rule of the thumb, just that in this case I personally would've found it interesting if the game had used Chaos Island to do something like that, rather than it and Sunset Heights being locations that Shadow shows up with basically zero acknowledgement apart from a couple of unvoiced lines by Gerald.
