SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS - Dark Beginnings

That's quite literally the meaning behind the line.


It's only made fun of because Griffith's delivery of the line.

 

I recall fans mocking the "which is fine by me" for making Shadow look like an edgelord who is fine with stealing from children. TV Tropes in particular made fun of how the line was in the hero path.

 

The whole context of the scene is that "yea this is easy" Das it.

 

Shadow takes great joy in stealing from babies.

 

I'm aware. My point is that fans seem to like to take the second part of the sentence as Shadow expressing his okayness with the act of taking candy from babies (even if he said it figuratively in the first part), rather with the lack of challenge.

 

That because whether it was intentional or not, that's exactly how the line is delivered. And it's even more funny to interpret it that way too.

 

Fair enough

 

Taking candy from babies to improve their dental hygiene. How thoughtful!

 

And that's why you don't fight the memes, you simply run away from them!

Welllll I dunno, that's definitely accurate to her character and relationship with most of the people she knows, but I think she's on terms closer to Sonic and his friends for the President himself, if she's wondering about him in Heroes of all things:

Confession time i guess, I didn't even know I had anything to confess - I was still under the impression that yeah he probably meant he would take candy from babies cause it's easy, and never considered anything else for a second. It's like the "Why did the chicken cross the road" thing, people go their whole lives not realizing "to get to the other side" is probably a euphemism for death and just accept the reality that the chicken wants to cross the road to be on the other side of said road.

Ironically, never got caught up on the "I guess that means we're going too" thing from Sonic. Incredibly obvious he means the aliens are going to space and they're going to the ark which is also in space.

Yeah no that's a psy-op. You're lying. The chicken crossing the road is an anti-joke and I refuse to believe I've been a moron for 25 years.

 

What? No way. It's not a euphemism for death. The joke is that there is no punchline. It's an anti-joke.

You're not stupid for not overthinking it. It's one of those weird myths that regularly shows up on clickbait listicles. It doesn't hold up to a second if scrutiny, but it sounds like cool trivia so people buy into it.

Again though, it's all in the awkward writing and delivery. Sonic essentially says this: "Looks like those creatures are headed into outer space. We're headed into outer space, so I guess that means we're going into outer space in addition to the aliens". His use of the word "we"

It's a really clunky, badly translated couple of sentences that nobody would actually say that way in the real word.

 

It's too late you can't fool me anymore, my eyes have been opened, the chicken antihumor propaganda must be abolished

I can't believe I forgot this separate thread was made and missed all the voice actor chatter. Guess I forgot to click "Watch" the first time. To toss my two cents from the game thread in here: I think this is the best Team Dark has sounded in a long time, and I'm here for it. Plus it's just so nice seeing more genuine storytelling with care put into the presentation again. I appreciate Frontiers's efforts, but this? This hits.

 

Is there a compilation of all ridiculously-awkward lines in Shadow '05?

 

I've been critical of Thorton's take on Shadow in the past, but he's giving it his best here and I like it.

To be clear, Thorton is a well known voice 'director' in the LA scene, not just an actor. He's never been a slouch, it was just hard to get used to different casting after decades of memes and a certain "sound" Shadow's voice had that he didn't quite match, but here he really is given extra time to chew on Shadow's character, so the reads are honestly great.

This was also pretty obvious if you saw him talk about it at the AX panel. He referenced understanding Shadow's "super-objective" which is a somewhat obscure but higher level bit of actor lingo I don't hear used often, so yeah. He's no slouch and never has been, but now he's being given room to breathe in the role and it shows.

Saw this pointed out on Twitter but it is a pretty good detail; Part of why Shadow was stopped from destroying the planet was because Amy reminded Shadow of Maria. And one of the aspects that's popped up in both episodes of Dark Beginnings has been that Maria will like, do a surprise/attack hug whenever Shadow gets down. Which is the very first thing Amy did to Shadow when she confused him for Sonic. Maybe it's unintentional, but I'd like to think otherwise.

 

I did notice the return of that swift embrace Maria gives in the first episode, and thought it was a tad one-note. It gives the impression she just does that constantly.
