Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe Thread (& Knuckles)

Sigh. Visually it looks incredible, and I don't mind Reeves as Shadow. Unfortunately, this missed the mark for me. As typical for the movie industry adapting games, they went a bit too far off the SA2 story for my taste. Gerald Robotnik needs to be way more sad/serious to counteract Eggman's goofiness. And overall, this movie universe is too playful for my taste, was hoping for a larger tonal shift in mood.

 

This is like watching the trailer for Half Life 3

Doesn't really look much better or worse than the previous 2 films. I thought because of Shadow this one could maybe hit 750 million. I'm thinking more 600 million after the trailer.

I'll still go see it but it is what it is.

 

I've seen some mixed reactions to Gerald Robotnik in this. I don't understand why anyone was expecting them to go full anime shonen for this film, these films have always been a pretty standard family comedy series.

EDIT: hang on, Shadow did an Akira bike-slide I guess it is slightly anime.

 

No we don't. The best depiction of Maria's death was always SA2, where you don't even see it.

 

The website is up now too. Doesn't display much aside from the trailer and the option for Paramount to spam your inbox.

 

You will not take away my desire for child death

 

They might've changed the way Maria dies. The trailer gave me such vibes.
But what matters here is her death's effect on Shadow and his actions.

Wasn't expecting a few things regarding Eggman...
Funny, to say the least. Intriguing, at best.
Wondering how much one can take from there, fanon-wise xD

Overall, I might get as much enjoyment from Sonic3 as I did from the prior ones.
People expecting some degree of faithfulness to the source material, better forget that ASAP and enjoy these movies for what they are

It looks fine. And they've focused on the parts that will be the best, made a few changes to keep it more grounded and family friendly (Child death is fine, but death by firing squad is not). How much Rachel's wedding C-plot we get will affect my enjoyment.

Gerald being alive is surprising, maybe he will actually be the big bad in this movie, interesting direction if true

 

there's been a running joke on twitter that Sonic fans are going to go apeshit in the theatres when they see Maria get shot and like... if that actually happens I might just die of second-hand embarrassment...

 

Here's a comparison shot of the same scene between 2 and 3

The change from orange lighting to red with a hint of blue and making Shadow look even angrier makes this scene look 100 times better.
