Sonic X Shadow Generations thread, movie level out now

My purchasing habits tend to be more favourable towards that which will give me more existing content to enjoy in titles - what used to be ‘the full experience’ until publishers thought up the fantastic idea of making that cost extra too. Secondly, it’s all dependant on the quality of the artbook and OSTs. I’ve lucked out on a few occasions such as with Kill La Kill:IF, but I was heavily disappointed with Armored Core Rubicon’s artbook and too drained by the Fallout 76 fiasco that I’m not really tempted to try my luck again.

An extra level, though? Replayability my beloved? A digital version of the remastered tunes and artbook? Now we’re talkin’.

 

How are the physical album qualities of sonic games?

 

Man Limited Run sure do just own the lion-share of the collector's edition market now don't they? I wouldn't mind so much if their shipping to the UK wasn't so expensive, but it does feels kinda weird that Sega chose not to just make a collectors edition themselves and sell it in stores like with the old Generations? It's very nice, espcially the Dreamcast statue and case, but at that price hahaha nope sorry.

 

The only time they've ever sold a physical CD Soundtrack in the US... And it's part of a physical collector's edition which is the worst way to get the game itself. Just sell me the damn CD!

 

Actually I found out through placing an order that you can have the game shipped to you separately at launch if you don’t want to wait to receive it with the rest of the package.

 

I’m not one to complain, BUT…

This doesn’t bode well for the future of physical games if LRG is making a version of what is an actual commercially viable game.

LRG blew chunks with the print quality on the Persona 3P/4 physical releases to the point that I doubt anyone there gives one fuck about their work besides milking collectors and appealing to scalpers.

A lot of the games they produce get released in Japan (El Shaddai, Cosmic Fantasy, etc.) at cheaper prices and in non-limited runs.

Why can't those super expensive collector's editions be like a customizable sushi menu or something? >_>

Is it just me, or are we behind?

 

It's not that I don't think that it's a cool collector's edition, but it really sucks that this is apparently the only physical PS4 version we're getting here in the US. I could understand if Sega didn't want to release the game on last gen consoles, I could understand if they wanted the PS4 version to be a limited print run, but to have this be the only part of the world not getting a physical version of the only version of the game not getting a physical release here, except in the most expensive collector's edition (which, I would think if you have the disposable income to buy, you'd probably own a PS5 already), it's bad.

I don't want to buy a retail game digitally on consoles, and I already own Generations on PC, so I guess I have no choice but to get it on the Switch. And if the Switch version turns out bad, guess I won't be playing it until I get a PS5, which is probably... two years from now.

 

Yeah, not gonna spend a dime of my hard earned money on something shat out by LRG. Those greedy hacks do nothing but pander to scalpers while actively partaking in the killing of physical game releases.

Hell, the collection doesn't even look all that good! I can see the appeal of the big statue and the art book, but the rest is just kitschy junk covered in the same 2 or 3 pieces of promotional artwork. I can't see this appealing to anyone other than people who want to turn their living room into one giant Sonic x Shadow Generations advertisement.

 

I hate LRG, but I just had to pre-order that

 

Covers are reversible for all consoles according to LRG's site!
(Using Switch version as an example here)



Additionally, seems all console versions are region-free too (living-abroad-guy joy on my end upon hearing that).
No purchase limit either (makes me think there's going to be one guy who wastes $1.5k for every version).

Wondering what that Commemorative Dreamcast Jewel Case is about though... Is it just a case?
I'm assuming it's just a case; not sure what it would be a case for though. Hope the cover for that is reversible too (because why not, at this point).

 

At this point I just wish they would show us footage of the game running on Switch so I can decide whether to pre-order it on Switch or PS5

Well, shit.

I was only expecting 6 levels and 3 bosses but this is looking like a whole ass game, and they're even tying it to Frontiers somehow (gotta get some more asset reuse in there somehow). I just wanted more good boost levels but this is looking like a genuinely good experience

 

This game keeps looking better and better. I know I keep saying I'm only gonna play Shadow's campaign, but after seeing this I can't help but see base Gens as nothing more than a thing of the past.

 

Damn that's cool. The Squid Mode reminds me of the pink wisp but looks slower, I wonder how that will play out. Now that I think about it the Doom powers look like they probably will be edgier and badass versions of the wisps.

 

Looks like the new levels we see here are

• Dusty Desert - Sonic 06 (Awesome as hell, hopefully has a Mephiles fight) or Pyramid Cave - SA2 (Does not make sense)
• An alternate version less corrupted version of Radical Highway set at day? It's definitely not just a small section of the Ark at the end of Act 1
• Enemy Territory - Sonic Forces Episode Shadow
• Chaos Island - Sonic Frontiers
• Egg Fleet ft. Metal Overlord - Sonic Heroes

Honestly seems like they're reaching to get the level count up with Chaos Island, but I'd rather have more levels than only 3. At least it confirms that levels past 2011 aren't out of the question.

 

The Doom Powers are more like Shadow's guns and vehicles I think. Especially the Wings

There seems to be multiple "corrupted" Radical Highway but I think one of those are the real Radical Highway

 

Turns out the key to getting people to like the Wisps was make them Shadow and evil.

This trailer really sold me, shit looks awesome. I can't wait!
