oh, i found it. I have no words. He's so confident in his approach and even comes with data but its all just directed in the completely wrong direction afterwards
To bring up the Batman comparison again, compare Batman's 1939 debut in Detective Comics #27 to Batman from July 2023 The design is basically identical. There have been slight changeups, different art styles and so on, exactly like Sonic, but the character hasn't really fundamentally changed in over 80 years. The Mickey Mouse comparison is a good one, too.
fwiw his other videos are pretty good, especially his one about Ocarina of Time. He was turning his Sonic game idea into an original IP and it seemed cool, idk if he's still working on it though https://x.com/javedlsterritt/status/852743184706711555?s=46&t=MHTgOqh_ka45HS8oxL2mzw it was just that one video of his that gained a lot of ire and ridicule from sonic fans lol
Nearly seven years ago...? She's dead, honey. Also I gravely apologize for giving those in the thread violent flashbacks to a long abandoned era of the Internet. And for those who've just learnt about that video... yeah. That did happen one time. On the plus side, it motivated BlazeHedgehog to create more video essays, so mistakes into miracles???
I can't take anyone seriously that says they're a big Sonic fan when the 3 main games shout the proper pronounciation of the company. I don't care if you're Australian, don't lie to my face like that.
This is cool, but man 2017, ive never heard about this otherwise so i can only imagine how its going still, not bad ideas at all, just, not great for sonic
Not trying to either but I ALSO thought of this video as soon as his name came up, hilarious how I'm not the only one who thinks this.
It is an interesting though that several of the things I grew up with are even more popular now than they were when I was a kid. Sonic games are arguably less popular than they were in the 90's but as a franchise Sonic is bigger than ever. He's about to have his third blockbuster film. Pokemon is the largest multimedia franchise in the world. The Mario movie made a billion dollars. I love seeing kids wearing Sonic shirts or buying Pokemon cards. (My 2 year old already knows more Pokemon than real animals; not sure if I should be proud or ashamed of my bad parenting). Also it's pretty crazy to finally not need to be ashamed of being a Sonic fan.
When you pass away to the great special stage in the sky, rest well knowing that the best Sonic games are behind you and you won't be missing much. The future of Sonic in gaming is fairly stable for now, the fans will buy any old shite. The future of Sonic as a cultural icon is far more secure, and I don't think he'll ever truly leave us.
I think our best shot at killing the bastard for good went out the window as soon as He was taken from us.
The fact that this happened goes to prove Sonic is eternal. A parody of fan backlash is the proof. The fact that Sanik was validated shows that Sonic as an idea will never die and even the fakers just make the original even more popular. I’ve been watching Foundation on Apple TV+ lately and realize Sonic has traversed through several crises relatively unscathed.
