If he did, it wasn't for 3D Blast. The entire programming side of 3D Blast was handled by Traveller's Tales in England. And Senoue isn't credited in a single Genesis game as a sound programmer as far as I can tell.

  2. He did do the sound programming for 3D Blast, and the Retro page for it even says he did, with 'arrange by' meaning the programmer who did the process of converting the songs to the hardware. He not only did his own songs but some from a few others as well; link here.

That could just be because that's what his most iconic stuff is. Studiopolis, Mirage Saloon (act 2 especially) and maybe Hi Spec Robo Go are absolute highlights in the soundtrack, and they may stand out because that's where incidentally their tone match the stage or help setting it adequately. Upbeat jazz fits a studio city and he made good adaptations for Mirage Saloon. It's not like he could top Green Hill with his Act 2, which feels a little like that too.

Then again, just because he's seemingly at his best in that style, that doesn't mean he can't do other styles. So yeah, I don't really agree either.

(The same could be said for Senoue lol. His work in Sonic 4 isn't really atmospheric¹ at all and always sounds like music to set the tone of a heroic journey, but never really related to where you are or what emotion Sonic should be feeling; in SA2, the same applies, and music that brings out a feeling different than that is not by him (Rhythm and Balance, for example); the most iconic songs in Adventure are all like that, like Be Cool, Be Wild and Be Groovy; even his most iconic classic era tune, Panic Puppet Act 1, sounds so much like that it was also used for the intro. There's a pattern here: it's not that he can't do other tones or he can't do atmospheric music at all (like Westopolis), it's just not what we remember him for)

¹ In the sense of indicating a time or a place, that is. A heroic journey is an atmosphere, after all. I don't know what the right word would be

I actually remember some trivia about westopolis being one of his favorite tracks he worked on specifically because of that, can't remember the source tho.

It reminds me I got surprised when did found out he did those remixes in Sonic Generations:

You would expect that was composed by Tomoya Ohtani or Kenichi Tokoi, but nah, it's ur boi Senoue. But I honestly like when he composes in differents style like that.

I‘m pretty sure the final tracks won‘t use the S1 drums…! ^^ also we‘ve only really heard (part of) one song, which seems to be changed and updated constantly - I‘ll save my judgment for the finished game!

I dunno. The song may not be final, but it's clear that the S4 sound is an intentional choice of direction. It wasn't leaked via gameplay footage, it was in a released project (however minor).

Okay I broke down and listened to Bridge Island in its entirety. I love it! It's pretty much exactly what I'd wanted from a game like this. It's very SA1. I also feel it sounds a bit less chaotic and hurried than the music from Mania. I personally don't mind the different styles and besides, apparently the tracks are somewhat tentative. I really like what I hear either way.

I am really excited about this game. I'm not expecting it to be incredible or groundbreaking, but rather a good, Sonic-y time full of surprises. I'm okay with that.

I was talking more about the composition itself possibly being not final, rather than the used soundfont (which i really don‘t mind that much) - also it being used in the Lego thing doesn‘t mean they won‘t change it for Superstars

The boss themes use the S1 drums as well, so I’m guessing the ones in the menu(?) song will stay even if the rest of it changes a bit. I’m tired of them and the melody is too short and repetitive, but I have to admit it’s been stuck in my head for several days…

The other two songs are great though!

We will be getting more info at Gamescom Opening Night Live, which is Tuesday the 22nd at 1pm central.

It seems reasonably likely there will be a release date.

Here’s my (admittedly safe) guess for what we’ll see in the gamescom trailer:
    - more detailed co-op footage that gives us an idea of how co-op actually works
    - at least one zone we haven’t seen video of
    - a release date

As of right now we’ve only been told Fall 2023.. but I’m predicting an early November release date which is when they usually release their major Sonic games… I’ll say November 3rd or November 10th

Release date of 18th October was leaked on AmazonUK about a month ago, but SEGA could easily change the date. October is already pretty crowded with releases so perhaps moving the date to November would be better.

Since Mario Wonder will come out October 20th, is it wise to release it that close? Might be overshadowed…!

I just wanna say that this arrangement of Door Into Summer is absolutely perfect and like possibly the single best music piece in the entire franchise. It gives me powerful feelings of nostalgia for the seemingly endless summers of my childhood despite that fact I’ve never played Chaotix. Jun’s ability as a sound technician may be in question but his chops as a composer are absolutely incredible.

Personally kind of expecting a delay into the winter season at this point. Fall is in a month and they still haven't given a concrete release date, and I can't imagine they'd want Frontiers Update 3 to take attention away from Superstars, and vice versa.
