You're not. It bothers me to no end as well that they're not consistant with the Sonic CD ones. It really bothers me.

Amy in CD was straight up meant to be the equivalent of a cutscene sprite so they didn't seem to put much effort into it compared to the rest of the assets. Given she only shows in the ending and the manual for her actual art design, I wouldn't even be surprised if her addition into CD as a sprite was a late development; her prototype sprites were certainly a special kind of janky look.

I don't mind the new style for the graphics so far for 1-CD-2 with Amy because it finally steps her up to player quality level if not beyond, a resounding mark up in treatment. My biggest problem, and one that will probably be fixed in a week after release by modders, is how she maintains that wide-eyed pre-3 style in Sonic 3 as well.

Yea, I get she doesn’t really fit S3 (not that I’m complaining lol) but that’s a lot of sprite work I think a universal set that mostly fits all 3 makes sense (Not like Knuckles sprites fits Sonic 1, 2, or now CD but there he is).

Now if they’d just give Sonic a “pick your sprite style” thing because when the other 3 have near universal sprites, he’s the one who ends up standing out the most.

EDIT: Lol “cut them some slack” I say, what am I their boss? No I’m some random woman talking about Sonic online who am I to be so entitled.

It’s probably serendipitous, but I like it this way. Knuckles’ sprites in 1-2-CD are in the style of his debut game, if Amy’s going to have just the one set, then it’d make sense to base them in CD’s art style.

Well fair enough. In my idea of a perfect set of choices and collection ideas, Amy would have her pink shoes and CD palette for CD as well as the pseudo-CGI look for 3&K, and Knuckles would have his prototype sprites with his S2-style design reinstated for Sonic 2 (and 1 and now CD I guess), but that's what mods are for, not making developers who probably weren't intending on initially returning to this project slave in extensive work just to make one nerd satisfied.

Or as Dark said, the ability to simply select your sprites per-game or something. The Insta Shield still exists in 1&2, being able to take like, a 3&K Rules Sonic with his sprites into the three games prior would be neat and all but that's past the scope of any of this.

No, not really? Mania allowed the option of changing movesets in the options, and I don't see how they couldn't add the feature in Origins, considering the fact that the moves exist in all 3(?) games. I can understand the sprite changes not being needed, but they could definitely add the move options in.[/QUOTE]

They could do it in 3&K theoretically by it being built on top of Mania, but that would require a fair bit more extra work getting menus and systems together; I doubt they have the time for exactly what this entails. Especially for CD, which lacks an Insta-Shield equivalent until Amy's code has been introduced for her hammer attacks.

In hindsight, without using the cheat menus Amy really is going to be our Insta-Shield character for the pre-3&K games.

Tbf who knows what else they’ll be adding to CD. It’s adding 2 new characters and new routes, it’s probably getting the most work done to it out of any other game. Which makes sense CD was a bit less up to par compared to 1 and 2.

Though the Drop Dash is a bit gimped in S1/SCD/S2 because Sonic Team implemented it, the only moves we're still missing in the games are the Super Peel-Out in S1/S2 and the Insta-Shield in SCD. Yes, they both lack each other's additional move, it's a mess. Considering Headcannon has been allowed to make a few additional updates and enhancements of their own and they did add the Super Peel-Out into S3&K prior, I'd be very surprised if they didn't consider throwing in both moves to all games to make the collection feel more unified whilst already making code and sprites for entire new characters, one of which even has an Insta-Shield equivalent. And they're bringing SCD up to snuff with new level design for Knuckles, so why not other additions of the later remasters as well like the Insta-Shield, Elemental Shields and Sonic w/ Tails playability?

It'd be great if they did throw sprite swapping between games on top of that (not just for S3&K as speculated), but I have to wonder if they'd have room for that load of work whilst also creating new sprites for Knuckles and Amy. Maybe they could keep it to S1(SCD)/S2/S3&K and leave out Mania, IDK.

I noticed on Amazon Australia's listing of the game, it specifies the physical edition as "Day 1". Is this just some odd marketing tactic or are they implying the art book is going to be a limited thing? No where else has this been mentioned so I feel it must be a mistake on the listing or just some weird ploy to get people to pre-order.

Some preorders have Day 1 listed like that at times, I would guess they've just got it confused.

I was actually asking about this in my local EB Games today, they said the artbook was a pre-order bonus. take it with a grain of salt though, EB is a middle man at best (Australia)

Another thing with the Advance movesets, besides having another button to work with, is that a bunch of the moves technically originate in Adventure. I don't know how much Modern Amy they'd want to retrofit into the Classic era.

I'd love for there to be some other gimmick going on with her we just haven't seen yet of the scant footage, but that might just be the cope talking. From the trailer I thought she was also going to bounce off the ground with her Hammer jump, but that seems to just be a normal rebound off of a Badnik's hitbox. Maybe her Hammer also breaks spikes like the presumably artistic license of Origins' ending, filling in for Mighty's spike gimmick from Mania. Or maybe she actually could bounce off Springs higher with it like in Advance.

As it stands, she looks to basically have a bigger and perpetual Insta-Shield that flows right into a Drop Dash equivalent without the speed boost and loss, where she hits with her Hammer at least twice judging by frame-by-framing the footage, and presumably the standard Spin Dash as well. Not quite an exact reskin of Sonic, and I'll have to try her out myself and see the subtle differences in practice, but I wonder if that's going to be enough for most people.

It's odd, because it's not like the moveset is yet another result of Sonic Team being hesitant to touch Retro Engine code (though if they couldn't get the Drop Dash totally right, then they wouldn't get Amy's lol), because Headcannon implemented her themselves, and they know what to do. Not sure if it was them or Sega folk calling the shots on how exactly Amy should be portrayed in the Classic games, or if getting too crazy with it would risk interfering with level design or at least desire that it'd accommodate for a new gimmick. They added in like a little bit of breakable terrain and design for Mighty's ground pound move in Mania, and that was for just one game.

As for other details about her inclusion to ponder, I'm guessing she probably wouldn't get retroactively put into the Blue Sphere title screen alongside the others in an attempt to replicate the pre-rendered sprites, but it'd be cute to see. At the very least I imagine she's getting her own title screen for S1/S2 like the rest, as well as a level clear sprite in New Blue Sphere (it is the same artist after all). SCD/S3&K of course already represent other playable characters with just Sonic and look pre-rendered, though the former might just be another aspect of SCD being the earliest of the remasters and not having the additions of the later ones. Also sucks that Amy can't have her SCD giggle for getting a 1-Up/Coin like Sonic, unless by some miracle they rescind that.

The SteamDB page is still being updated as we speak so they must really be fixing up the code until the absolute last minute with new features (I hope). The game is 43 days away from launch so I’m surprised they’re still working on it.

I strongly believe the backlash from the original launch will be washed away if Plus is received more favorably but that all depends on how much SEGA allowed Headcannon to fix.

So what kind of "additional updates and enhancements" do we think Headcannon might give the collection? They could fix the S1/SCD/S2's Drop Dash and add universal Insta-Shield and Super Peel-Out, the latter being added to S3&K after all. Maybe some other inconsistencies like Elemental Shields in SCD or blue fades outside of S3&K. Maybe they could even do sprite swapping between games if they were allowed and resourceful enough to go crazy with it.

Decent crt filters like the ones in Mania would be nice (preferably the soft crt one pls).

I know not everyone uses them, but I just don't like how Classic Sonic games (or Sega console games in general) look without crt shaders, especially when the games use a lot of dither shading techniques. S3&K with them on is a must for me.

What's there to wonder? They're all the same sprites in Competition now alongside the upscaled levels.
