Maple Hill Zone. Haha... We must use Maple in the zone name! It's a good way to say "Canada" without saying "Canada".
How lovely how Phoebius moved everybody else's concept work for this zone here... everything but my work! Anyway, I also created a background concept for this zone:
Alright... Maple Road Zone is pretty much the best name ever. Especially because the creator of this "Canadian Zone" concept, Matwek I believe, wanted to include some highway elements.
I did indeed, thought it would be interesting to have a level start out as a sort of Hill Top level with a lot of platform jumping, then have it progressing into a faster paced zone as you got nearer the city (which I belive is the next level). That and I also liked the idea of adding some old run-down log cabins/structures for sonic to run across of spin through knocking down walls
Yeah, mine shafts, brick buildings, log cabins... Pretty much what you would see when driving through a "ghost town" in the North American Rockies... a town that used to thrive off mining but has since met its demise. (Not that many buildings though. Just few and far between)
Actually I wouldn't mind the beat of the drum and the melody from the onion shaped guitar (the melody played near the beginning). It'd bring something new and original to the stage. I have no idea how the hell that would sound when converted to the genesis format, but you never know. Great work with the art on this one so far. I don't see too much original level art that could compare with the actual Sonic games, but this is top notch.

One of the reasons I chose that one was that it was remarkably similar to that first Alex Kidd in Miracle World song.

Just an idea but how about the boss be Eggman in a nurse's outfit? Free health care in Canada, right?
Nah, he'll be riding a flying moose-plane and laying down maple syrup so Sonic will get stuck and slow down and he can drop his moose bombs on him.
Mosses badnicks HAVE to be in this level. It's a Canadian rule! That boss concept before me made me chuckle, but I think it could work.
