Would you want another Sonic racing game?

Just imagine. Aside from the prerequisite 16 new courses, we'd also get an assortment of retro courses too. Mario Kart's past would be represented, obviously, but Sega? Classic racing arcade tracks, Mario Kart-ized.

C'mon, you know you want to do Dinosaur Canyon with extra red shells.

I would definitely buy another Sonic racing game, though I think it should remain part of the more expansive "Sega All-Stars Racing" banner, rather than being Sonic-exclusive. Though the Sonic universe certainly is deep enough to have its own specific racing games, it has more potential to become uninspired quickly (as with the Mario Kart series, which would greatly benefit from becoming "Nintendo Kart").

I was disappointed with some of the design choices in All-Stars Racing, for example the generic weapons, repetition of environments (the reasoning behind this was a bit "HD towns"), and the inclusion of very obscure (and not even fan-pleasing) characters when Sega has one of the richest back-catalogues of any company.

One of the franchises I felt was missing from the game was Streets of Rage. Axel, Blaze and Adam could have driven the E-Swat police car, their All-Star Move being the famous rocket launcher. Perhaps a sequel could employ a "rivals" concept, allowing similar characters to compete with each other, such as the Sonic Hero and Dark teams, Out Run's "goodie" Ferrari and "baddie" Porsche or even Streets of Rage and Virtua Cop.

There is such scope for a sequel, and I really hope that if there is one it meets its true potential. Oh, and 60 FPS across the board next time - it is a Sega racing game, after all.

  3. I really wouldn't mind another Sonic racer. I think they have genuinely been ok.

I love Riders, Sega All Star Racing and R.

The one I want most is Sega All Star Racing 2. Just needed more Sega and less Sonic really.

As for Riders, I love all of the unique little things it has over any other Mario Kart clone. Air Gauge, Running Starts, Turbulence (Even though that was really badly done.) Would love to play a version of the game with tighter controls, a bit more generosity with the Air gauge and maybe SSX Tricky style moves.

They could try sort of Assassin's Creed style free running for Sonic R2 to find alternate routes? But then again I doubt there will be a Sonic R 2.

Also - Mario Kart and Sonic Drift go to the Monaco Grand Prix.

I'd love to see another All Stars Racing. It needs to show some love for Streets Of Rage though. Blaze or Axel are a must for a sequel.

I'd rather see a Fighter's Megamix sort of sequel. And have it finally include fucking Segata Sanshiro.

The Riders series has been mediocre at best, and Sonic R was 'okay'. Sonic and SEGA Allstars Racing was better than Mario Kart Wii, but I think that's enough for Sonic racing games. I wouldn't want any more. I want SEGA to focus on producing better Sonic games, like Sonic 4 Ep II.

Sega is technically only the publisher, though. It's not like development of ASR distracted people from working on Sonic 4. An entirely different team worked on ASR, on an entirely different continent, with an entirely different budget. A universal pool of resources were not split between the games; each game had their own separate pool of resources and operated (mostly) independently. And if one ceases to exist, it most likely does not impact the other even in the slightest.

Incidentally, yes, I very much do hope there's an ASR2. Broaden the environment types, the racer types, fill out the online mode so you can do arena battles and use All-Star moves online, clean up the framerate, etc.

I just want new levels in Sonic R, really. If hackers could make that happen, I'd be set as far as Sonic racing goes.

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
I would personally love another Sonic racing game. ASR, Sonic Riders 1&2, Sonic R and Sonic Rivals all tickled various parts of my brain. None of them are perfect, but all were fun.

I probably enjoyed Rivals more than any other modern sonic game so far. It felt a lot more like the classics than most and was genuinely fun. It made me want to smash my PSP so many times, but it was the good kind of throw your controller, the 90s kind. I especially loved the final zone in Rivals 1, it gave me the same sense of "ok, this is badass" that parts of Sonic Adventure and the Genesis titles gave me.

I thought the first Riders was pretty damn good. My brother and I used to tear that game up. As for the other racing games, haven't played any besides R, which had potential in its map design, but I didn't like much else.

Sonic Rush had a multiplayer Race-mode that was pretty cool, but not much to balance it out. If you managed to get ahead 20 or so ticks of the other player, you were guaranteed a victory provided you didn't mess up.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
You mind elaborating? The same can be said of practically any racing game.

I felt like the remote rocket in All-Stars Racing was a way of doing the Blue Shell right: you could take out the person in front of you, the person in first, a large group, or absolutely nobody depending on how you used it, and other people could block it with their items.

I could totally see Sega sticking in some lame racing bits in Sonic Generations or something, maybe just as special stages or something. Better not give them ideas..

Well, in a game like Mario Kart, you could use items to get back ahead, or use your knowledge of the track to get ahead. In Sonic Rush, no items, and the tracks were practically without hazards.

Well, with the only Mario Kart games with any sense of item balance, getting that far ahead meant you pretty much stayed there. After Mario Kart 64, it became less about being skillful with your steering and more about getting lucky in the item lotto.

All-Stars Racing was great, and I liked Riders and Zero Gravity. I feel racing games are a natural fit for Sonic since the series is all about speed, so I'd support another one (either an all-new game or an All-Stars Racing sequel).

If they were making an "on-foot" Sonic racing game, it should be like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle's races, but with more character diversity and shortcuts.
