While I'll agree that it looks better, it's still looking flat to me. That's one of the main reasons I did a 3D model of it awhile back, to provide better shading reference.
There must be a way to make it look less flat... I mean, look at this: They can give perspective to something which shouldn't even exist...
The domed part is an issue for me. The shading does not connect correctly with the rest of the prison, nor does it behave realistically. I like the bottom part a lot though.
This may be a red metal lampshade, but it gives us a better idea of how light reflects off a metallic dome: I also found these... 'things', too: It's surprising what you can find when you do a <a href="http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&tbo=1&tbs=isch:1&q=dome+~metal&sa=N&start=400&ndsp=20" target="_blank">Google Image</a> search.
Maybe I'm just having a bad idea here, but maybe the central part looks flat because the sides are perfectly vertical, so I wonder if it would look any better by adding some imperfection, or something like this: . I don't even know if what I said makes sense at all, I know nothing about art
So close Test-Object, SO CLOSE!!! How about you just overlay your most recent egg prison with a 50% alpha of the grainier one. I think that would do it.
Awesome! But I think now the dome is a tad too grainy. However, the sides are PERFECT! And there is a certain level of comedy in the scene you have given us.
Agreed, turn down the dome grain a tad and I think it'll finally be done. OMG, I've been awaiting this moment for so long! lol
My only complaint is that the yellow-and-black striped bit at the bottom uses a different yellow to the button on top - both should fade down to a dark, greenish-yellow like the button, but the striped piece fades down to a brown/orangish yellow instead. = ) Aside from that pernickety little nitpick, though, it's looking fantastic! EDIT: Quick-n'-dirty mockup just to show what I mean: Compare to the above; this one uses a consistent yellow. = ) Side note; there's a stray pixel of blue on the yellow-and-black, but I didn't bother to fix that in my version since it's only a quick edit for illustrative purposes.

No, it was in fact done in 3D and almost literally copied+pasted in Photoshop. You're just being paranoid. :v:
