Eggman? Smiling? http://sonicresearch.org/art/art.php?currD...eggman01_32.png (It's more likely than you think)
Hmmm...good point. Still though, that smile he gives in that picture gives him that sense of megalomania, which more or less is what I'm trying to describe for the signpost.

However, unlike the "cheeze"-style grin of him in my avatar, I don't think we could interpret the signpost grin to be him gritting his teeth together; it doesn't look quite right really. I still suggest a smaller mouth, as like in the original sprite's got. <!--quoteo(post=280475:date=Feb 17 2009, 08:39 PM:name=Vincent)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Vincent @ Feb 17 2009, 08:39 PM)
-Just a quick point out, I think the bottom of Knux's mouth shouldn't have that upwards 'flick'; it's not on the original, and somehow it doesn't seem to suit his mood in the original sprite - he looks more 'gloomy' in the original to me. -Also, I think with the highlight on Knux's cheek in the original - coupled with the shading around his eyes, he seems to have a very slight 'glarey' look to him, not sure if anyone else can see what I mean here. -Thirdly, I think the shading on Knux's Knuckles could do with some improvement. The shadow needs to be much further up his knuckle, and also needs to be less oval, and more rectangular. -Forthly, I think his eye-area [whatever it's called] might need a bit of 'tightening up'/narrowing. If you notice in the original, there's no gap between the eye and his dreadlock, and that the bottom of his eye extends very slightly further than how you did it. -Fifthly (I wasn't indending on doing this many, sorry!), I'm not sure if it's just the shading, but do you think the front of his muzzle might need a little more fattening there? I'll see what other people think
<!--quoteo(post=280475:date=Feb 17 2009, 02:39 PM:name=Vincent)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Vincent @ Feb 17 2009, 02:39 PM)
That looks astoundingly sexy. Though, I agree with all of The Growler's points. Particularly the mouth and 'glare' look. Also, the dread closest to his mouth just seems a bit fatter than the original at the curve. Also, note how in the original there is maroon between the two most prominent dreads. In yours there is just green background. I think the original is attempting to imply that he is leaning forwards in the sign, and that maroon between the dreads is part of his back.
Has anyone made a start on the rest of the small animals yet? If not, I've had a quick crack at the penguin (only one of the three frames to start with). Please let me know what you think. Here's a png of the vector as it is now.
I think that the bit between the lenses should be more subtle in the Robotnik image due to the lack of appearance in the original. As a kid, I always thought that Sonic 2 Robotnik was more evil because he had black eyes as opposed to blue. My own weirdness, I know, but I lose the original effect in the thick metal between the lenses here. Especially in consideration of western boxart. Also, Knuckles signpost looks awesome.
<!--quoteo(post=280554:date=Feb 17 2009, 05:59 PM:name=Vincent)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Vincent @ Feb 17 2009, 05:59 PM)
That Knuckles Sign Post is amazing; much better, but not quite perfect yet. Good job with the "back" showing between the dreads. Here's my updated nitpicks. The glove needs more shading midway up. From how I perceive it, the darker shading in the middle of the glove is trying to show the outline of balled up fingers inside the glove. The current shading on yours makes it look more like a boxing glove. Compare to Official Artwork. Likewise, the glove in the original is showing a bit more of the "bottom" of the glove, meaning the blade of his hand. This better displays the shape of the glove. This is because his fist is slightly turned toward his face. In yours, the first is directly facing the viewer. I also think that the original has his thumb slightly higher up the glove. Also, the dread on the other side of his head that's covering his arm near his glove needs a bit more shading, it looks very flat. It looks flat in the original sprite as well, but I feel that was a color limitation. He needs some more dark shading right above his eyes on the bottom part of his eyebrows to make them stand out more, compare to original. I like your opposite take of lighter shades higher on the eyebrow to make them stand out, but it doesn't have the same effect without the darker shading as well. Well, then again you did put dark shading there, but it needs to be a bit more prominent. One last thing about the Knuckles, and sorry if all of this, including the previous, is getting to nit-picky. I want to remind you that you're doing an excellent job before I continue. I just want this project to be as amazing as Sonic 2 was when it first came out. Again, sorry if I am picking too many nits=P I'm not sure what causes this, but I interpret the original as having Knuckles head angled down a bit, with him glaring up at you. This would add to his menacing look. I'm not sure what it is about yours, but it seems that his head is level, even though it almost perfectly matches the sprite. Perhaps the details to the shape of the top of his head? Maybe the narrow of his eyes near the tip (nose end) of his face. Perhaps the shape of the muzzle in the same area. I'm not really sure, and you're much better at this than I am, so I'll leave it to you whether or not this is worth bothering with, and furthermore how to accomplish it. --- As for Robotnik, he's looking great. Those teeth are very fitting, and the shape of the head/chin look good too.

I would have to agree with this too. I always imagined that Knuckles had his head tilted slightly downwards and was looking up at the player.
This is definitely seconded by me too. I was thinking of mentioning this, but didn't know how to explain it very well; I'm glad someone else was able to I also agree with what ICEknight said, too = Knux eyes shouldn't merge.

Perhaps we could we have a comparison, please? (between the previous version [maybe?], and the original sprite) *EDIT* Thanks Vincent :v:
I can see a definitive fold in the middle of the main part of the glove there in the sprite, just next to the thumb, that doesn't appear in the update.
