Nice first attempt, but yeah, it definitely needs more attention in the shading. Explosion clouds give you the opportunity to go crazy adding subtle details, so push this one as far as you can. Just remember to keep your files saved as steps in case you get 'overdetailed' (it does happen...). Keep up the good work. Kamon- one of our staff artists recently completed the icon for Sonic's head. Please continue work on the CPZ tiles!
...Nice effort, but it almost looks like you traced every single pixel, instead of trying to make some shapes out of them. =|
Just got around to reading this now. CONGRATS HODGY! You have done some damn fine work/improvements, and holy crap have you evolved into a wonderful artist. I am so proud :tear:
Fixed a couple of the problems mentioned. But I cant for the life of me work out how to get the shading like it's done in the original sprite :/

But I cant for the life of me work out how to get the shading like it's done in the original sprite :/[/quote] ^ I think what you've done is you've made it look like the left image tilted rather than the right. So that shading is the shadow casted by the spring coil as well as the top bit.
Just testing ^In case you can't see it moving it's an APNG ^The fact that such a big and defined beveled edge practically disappears when flipped up doesn't look right to me.
You could make the shading look just a bit brighter (or darker, can't think in lighting this morning) so that the edge is still there. Otherwise it looks okay to me.
Definitely! It's time to adjust the animation of it, before we put it into use! -The base and clips should stay on the same coordinates for the 3 frames.
That happens if you don't keep the same coordinates of still shapes over the frames! To easily fix it: 1)You have a total of 3 frames now, but you need to have all of them into one single Illustrator file as separate layers. So, create 3 New Layers, and put into each one of them only one frame per layer. 2)On first frame select all the shapes of the clips and group them 3)Delete the clips of the other 2 frames. 4)Create a New Layer on top and move the "clips" group in. EDIT: APNGS can be done by Firefox 3's APNG plugin. Pretty Cool results.

The only frame that needs adjustment is the third one: -The Red area on the bottom part seems to be a shadow instead of a RED paint not present on the other frames. Once this is done, please provide me the .AI file with all the frames, as your animation will be used into the engine. (Congs again! ^^) The extra frame is not necessary, required ones are the 3 frames (+ 1 with spring pressed down). Besides, If you want to draw an extended spring frame you CAN do it! P.s. Look at Exodus Spring frames for the coil shape.
Statrted to remaster the Rexon. I am using Illustrator now, so bigger posibilities than before. Please post feedback!
Nice Sonica! -Darker shades on the contours -Neck differently angled -Right jaw has an irregular shape -More color shades
