Post here all your WIP attempts to remaster Level Art / Badnik Art, waiting to be approved. I ask the courtesy to stop posting New WIP Level Art and Badnik Art on the old Topics, those will be used only by "approved" designs. ****Contributors Guideline**** Since we upgraded to million colors, 256 color limit don't exists anymore. HD stands for "High Definition". Any upscaled / hq2x filtered original 4X art, with few color shades or details will be not qualified. For this reason, being inspired by the "Original Level" feeling, you can picture and add as much details as your creativity dreams of! Vector Art is Required. Your program of choice must be able to save Layered and Unrasterized files (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Inkscape..). Layered work save us time to redraw parts from scratch and if exported correctly, we can easily put them into the engine. Check the list of "Art Available to be Remastered" on the Current Project Targets topic All new Art attempts must be posted on "WIP General Art Topic for validation. BEFORE working on Art NOT-LISTED on the Current Project Targets Topic, Check on the database if that piece you want to remaster has been already done! (To avoid redundant work) If multiple ideas, Art and examples, have been gathered on a single art piece S2HD Staff will decide and specify which idea will be worked on. If any Art piece is discontinued by the Contributor for ANY reason, it must be publically stated!(or privately to S2HD Staff members) DRAWING STYLE Start a new base by tracing over the original 4X Level Art shapes* You can *with caution* use gradients We accept textures if they feel perfectly integrated into the level To produce it faster and better, using "grid" helps ALOT in "tiling it" Place this "New Sonic Frame"into your level art to test the IN-Game feeling. ****Mini-Tutorial**** Part 1 1 - Import the Original 4X art, than Lock it. 2 - Create a new Layer, and by clicking on the "Layer spot" (or layer properties) change its opacity by 75% 3 - Draw! Part 2 1 - To properly check the results, you can switch back the opacity to 100% by selecting again the layer properties.
Yes PlasmaNuke, as for now you post them here! Please remember this includes only generic WIP Level Art & Badnik Art!
Alright so I guess I move my work here...because of the new rules, I blended the colors more smoothly... I also added sonic...
Very well done RGX! The screws and the meters really take it up a notch. Have you tried adding any additional shading to the dome at the bottom yet?
No, I haven't. I could've, but I wanted to try to keep the original shading as the sprite. EDIT: and thanks!^^
Very Nice. I love how you are working on it, you have been adding so much good stuff in each version! -The Platform has some undefined shapes, such as the upper gray circle (which looks to be a tube to me) -Make the bolts inverted: closer to the light source, lighter bolts. -Add slight darker shades to the left and right edges of the platform, to give it a more solid look. Please remember to post the new and original art to exact 4X!
For those looking for the 4x base sprites to work with, they're up at the database: http://sanik.hacking-cult.org/inker/entity...y=ChemicalPlant http://sanik.hacking-cult.org/inker/entity...ity=AquaticRuin I haven't finished ripping all the sprites from ARZ, but they should be up shortly. Keep up the great work everyone!
-4x size -fixed shading on the screws, by making the light facing the glare on the dome. -made a bit darker at the end of the sides (any darker would be black) -fix the lighting a bit on the top of the platform.
I'll be honest, I didn't like the first version you showed but the latest one is looking great and I am really impressed that it has been improved so much
Yes! Very nice shading here!! Go on like this and it be approved in no time. Only some minor fixes about it, shown by a quick mockup: -The Side base should be longer and inclined (marked in red) -Top white line must follow the metal shade -Also the Yellow stripe on edges must be shaded accordingly -Add some of your fantasy details on the black part below the metal plate -Add some lines to the circle pressure meter -Added a tube in the middle part, maybe should be wider than my mockup Looking forward to it.
Both your contributions have been greatly appreciated, so please don't give up. You did a great job on your remastering of that. The staff has yet to decide which version will be used.
Yeah, sorry if I rained on your parade PlasmaNuke. You're more than welcome to continue with Grabber. I'd be willing to provide feedback as well. If you want to do Whisp that sounds like a good idea to me, can't wait to check it out!
Alright, I've updated Grabber. • 4x original sprite size • Removed most outlines, some outlines remain - mainly around the metallic objects. • Tightened up some shapes and adjusted the lighting on some pieces. Things I still need to do: • Completely remove outlines • Add manual shading • Correct the shapes of 'background' legs and certain bolts on the body
You've missed out that line that runs through the middle of it's body, I think it was use to separate the back so you have a bit for the top and a bit for the bottom, also the shine doesn't look like the one from the original, maybe try and get it so that it shines down the enemy and not just on top. But other than that, it looks very nice.
Update: - I added a darker shade to the yellow stripes - Fixed the shading on top of the platform - Added the circle thingy on top - fixed the shape of the bottom black area - Added some lighting to the black area facing the light source. I tried doing some adjustments to the gauge but it just wasn't looking right.... EDIT: Although I added the circle on top, this has been bothering me.. Personally I don't think that belongs there, unless the change was intentional, then my mistake.
I wasn't sure what to make of that area on it after the sprite was ripped. To me, artistic license there with Vincent's suggestion holds close enough to the original that it shows improvement, but I do see where you're coming from on that. The only area of it that bugs me now is the highlight on the bottom. I know it's supposed to come off as that intense, but it may look better slightly spread out. Have you played around with that at all for variation's sake? Keep them coming, this one is close to approval for uploading.
RGX nice work, I prefer Vincent's gauges, just for the added details. Heres a couple things: - Remember that there are smaller platforms in CHZ which I believe uses the same times, it would be best to check if it will still work when the tiles are used on the smaller platforms. - I would like to see more details added to the blue bit, it looks too flat, I think you should make it rounder and add maybe a glass effect as if the liquid is contained in a glass sphere which it must be anyway. -The green line bit also bothers me, though you have replicated it exactly from the sprite maybe its not meant to be just like that, as we know 1 pixel can look big when on a small sprite but when enlarged it may look too small. I think that the grey panel things beside the green should have more shading, such as an emboss and thicker as they look quite thin. Siris the bug looks fantastic and official but the outlines used on parts of the shapes look odd, could you remove them to see what they look like without them cause it looks more like the official artwork for the game rather than being in game sprites, if you know what I mean. But besides that it looks perfect and definitly has a scary thing about it, ( to me these are one of the scarier badniks)
