  1. For those of you how want to make your own Sonic game, or any other game for that matter, then go to http://www.clickteam.com to get supplies on programs that make game making (amoung other things) a breez. Trust me. It is WAY easier to make your custom sprites in "The Games Factory", which I HIGHLY recomend getting. It's a 16 or 32 bit (depending on which you get) game making program that involves NO CODE AT ALL. All you do is use the easy to program event setter. Want Sonic to change to Super Sonic at 100 rings? Then just set it in the events, writen in plain english. And the best part is, you get as technical as you want. Oh, yea, life is sweet. I'm making a sprite of me, Gyro, in the program, and I'll be posting on the boards when it's complete.

    Progress:

    -Animation:

    —Standing still...........COMPLETE
    —All Other Animations................WORKING ON IT

    -Physics:

—Running and speed change with animation...............75% COMPLETE
    —Jumping Physics......................COMPLETE
    —Spin Dash.......................0% COMPLETE
—Flying (not the same way Tails flys).............0% COMPLETE

    -Abilities:

    —Phsycic Boom................0% COMPLETE
    —Teleport..................0% COMPLETE

    -Title Screen: 75% COMPLETE
-Level to play around in: COMPLETE(?)

    Yea, I don't like MMF/TGF.

I use GameMaker 5.2 registered for my Sonic game (it doesn't have any fhysics, not until the sequal).

I used to use GameMaker, it's a lot better that TGF, or MMF, or MFSH, or OMGWFTBBQ, or...yeah.

  5. here's a screen shot of what it looks like. As you can see, I'm using the Tails from Sonic 2 after some editing.

I don't like the program at all. The pulldown menus in every game made with them are all the same with that ugly joystick diagram with those giant X things they use for checkmarks (about 128x128!). They always have that popup when you exit the game. And even the fully purchased version can't make a stand-alone game. You'd still have to install the program yourself just to get the library files run someone's game. It's just as much trouble as VB and as usual the shortcuts lead to terrible results.

Yeah I've had TGF and for about a year

I've got MMF too but it's WAY more complicated.

I've never tried making a game with games maker because you can't get all the libs like on TGF. Unless you want to make a pointless hand drawn game you've got to get the libs :) Howto's help as well. All can be downloaded at SFGHQ.

Don't even talk to me about games I've made, TGF hates XP and throws up all sorts of glitches.

I've made a sprite of me too!
    Check it out!

Another peeve I have about these games is they always use the shift, control, and space keys. I have no clue if those are configurable or not. But it's a pain trying to shoot something down in a shooting game and then XP comes up asking if I want to enable skickykeys!

Yeah, I once tried to use TGF, and I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I'll stick with hacks, though I don't know what the hell I'm doing there either. Oh well.

    1. Yes, it can.
    2. No, you just need to install CNCS32.DLL.

That is so easily configurable. Just go to "File/Game/Application" and go to "Players". Then, click on Keyboard for Player 1 and it brings up a menu asking which button for what.

Or, if you mean while making a game:

    CNC/TGF
Go to "File", "Application Setup", "Players", and do the same as above.

    MMF:
Go to the Application Properties, and "Players".

Novices should work out TGF before MMF or use something better and easier (still searching)

I hate stickykeys! Turn them off!

Configuring the controls is easy press Ctrl + Y when playing or use Guess_who's advice ;)

you can turn stickykeys off I think when you press shift 5 times when it comes with the popup I think it will say options or something and you can turn it off (that's what I did)

I still find it a pain. I'm the kind of user that crashes XPwithin 2 months with a guarentee and must reinstall regularly. Some things I've grown accustomed for since nothing is permanent:
    • Forget about the "My documents, Pictures, Desktop, etc since they are user specific and I've got atleast 5 of them nested all over the place.
    • Don't bother just adding urls to the cookie block list in IE. Build an XML file to import instead (for backup when reinstalling).
    • Keep a directory of program installs such as Winamp, etc
That's basically how XP works :D.

  19. I know that there isn't a background there. THe problem is because of the attactchment size limits I couldn't use a JPG, so I used a GIF that cut out lots of details. Sorry. Good news is that I'vem made some progress with the animaitons and engine. I've enven given myself a theme song to go with it. This should be cool when it's done. As for not being able to make stand-alone programs, I don't know what you're talking about. I have a full version and it works fine (probably cuse I use ME and not XP).

Hey, wait a sec. Black Squirial, would your name happen to be Josh?
