I've got 3 different warp methods programmed for the Time Travel in my hack, but I just want to know which people would rather see:

    1. Hit status post, hit starpost, enter stars (as it is now)

    2. Hit status post, instantly warp

    3. Hit status post, maintain speed, warp (SCD style)

I prefer the 3rd one at the moment, but I just thought I'd see what other people thought. All 3 are programmed and working, so I can do any of them, and if anyone has any other methods they think would be good, let me know and I'll give them a try as well.

2 is definitely too easy, unless you only put about one of each time post in each level. I'd say either 1 because it's original and still clever or 3 because it's what people are familiar with.

3 sounds best to me, followed by 1 then 2. =P

I always thought running fast to time travel sucked. At least SCD's implementation, if you could find a way to make it less cumbersome, I'd definitely go with that.
One thing's for sure, the current method will NOT work.

I'd say a mixture of 1 and 2. You find the status post, and if you have enough rings (25 or something), stars appear above it ala starpost and you warp.

    OR

Make the Status post require 50 rings or something, then hide all the status posts.

That's how Saxman attempted it in his timezones hack, and I really didn't like it. I'm drifting towards 3 since it seems like a more professional way of doing it, but I know that some people didn't like the way SCD handled that.

@jman2050: What do you mean 1 won't work? Do you mean in gameplay terms or it won't work in general?

Yes, use the method 3. And by the way, I have a questin. In you hack, the different ages of the same Zone will be only a level with the same look but different palettes, or they will have some unique things as in SCD?

Sorry, I should've been clearer. it'll work in general (after all, you implemented it already), but from a gameplay standpoint I don't think it works very well. You have to find a timepost, then find a lamppost and go through it, and considering lampposts only work once (unless you plan on changing that...) it's quite a bit cumbersome

Unless you have a reason for limiting time travel in that fashion. If so, please disregard the above.

Each timezone has different layouts and level art. In the future, I hope to have each timezone with new music as well, but I'll have to port the S1 sound driver for that since that relies on 68k more, whereas S2 onwards was all Z80.

You can download an old version of the hack at the link below if you want, but it really is old. I've done loads more since then.

I'd say go for #3, and you can still use the other two methods for bonus stages and other stuff you might come up with.

Sonic should do timetravel when he hits 88 miles per hour

1 is very original, and I like it a lot. But it feels a bitt too easy at times. Perhaps if you could make it so you lost your time travel (after hitting a marker) if you got damaged? Just a suggestion I thought I'd throw out there.

Anyway, if you don't decide to use that, then 3 definitley. 2 is an absolute nono.

(Bit off topic, but that version doesn't work on Kega for me. Does anyone else have this trouble?)

Would hitting the post while at a certain speed be possible? Would certanly feel more sonic CD'ish while not being quite as annoying.
And out of the choices available, I'd have to go for 2, I found Sonic CD's style rather annoying the way you have to just keep running and hope to god you don't run into something that slows you down.

Airplanes travel faster than 88 miles per hour and they still don't do time travel.

Therefore, I propose a realistic solution; have him time travel when he hits 99.99999999999% the speed of light. *shot*

But seriously, I think 1 is the best. 2 would be very frustrating: "there's a 1up ahead almost there oshitz I hit a starpost DAMNIT", and I always found the SCD way very frustrating.

I think the best way to do this would to be to throw a combination of 2 and 3 together, as well as suggestions from other people. How about this method:

    > Hit Status post at a certain speed or faster

    > Sonic continues running but trails stars

    > After 1 second of running without stopping (which is practically nothing) the lost S1 warp animation kicks in and you warp.

Hmm. Stephen UK Told me that in Choce Number two, The Posts would be out of the way. that's all I heard though.

And as a side note, the 88 Mph Thing was clever, I admit.
