Why stop at 16-Bit? I'd definitely take an HD or 2.5D remake.

A remake of Genesis/MD Sonic 1 with enhanced 8 bit levels as DLC would be a fun idea.

Or for a more obscure one, Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine with Puzzle/Nazo Puyo mode added.

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
Why does everyone always want the Spin Dash in Sonic 1?

Fuck that. Gimme the original game, but with a fully-comprehensive time-attack mode. Not like Sonic Jam's where players can't enter their initials, but something like Sonic CD's. With a millisecond counter and everything. This is all I want.

    Sonic Classic Hybrid Project
HD visuals with 100% spot on physics.
The same character sprites across all 3 games, but using the unique poses from the originals for each individual game (if that makes sense).

    Sonic 1:
    -Extended Levels
    -Mini Bosses and act transitions
-Add in the game gear zones
    - Sonic chases Robotnik outside after the FZ boss, leading to Sky Base.
    - The Labyrinth Zone boss becomes the 8 bit boss.
    - The 16 bit Labyrinth boss is moved to the end of Scrap Brain 3.
    - Some GG bosses could act as mini bosses

    Sonic 2:
    - Extended Levels
    - Mini Bosses and act transitions.
    - DON'T incorporate the GG zones, but remake them in a game all on their own.
    - Obvious one, and a cardinal sin not to do it: Hidden Palace, Cyber City, Dust Hill and Wood... only done GOOD!
    - One of the aforementioned zones should act as a Launch Base of sorts so we can witness the first launch.

    Sonic 3:
    - Make it more challenging with ALOT more control in the players hands. Back in 1994 when I was still struggling to complete Sonic 1 and 2, I finished Sonic 3 the day I got it.
    - An alternate Nakamura soundtrack.

I can understand Sonic CD getting the re-release it got because hardly anyone had the chance to play it. But remakes of the Genesis trilogy (which has been played to death by millions) would have to bring A LOT more to the table.

Jason, add the time-attack mode I want for each of the three-point-five games (I'd love to see that GG Sonic 2 remastered thingy too) and I have an erection. I love how you didn't default to "DURRR SPINDASH IN SONIC 1". You're good. ;)

I admit I like the Time Attack mode idea. I like extra modes and challenges to add replay value when the main game is complete. If they add more characters to Sonic 1, a split screen race mode would add a lot of fun to it as well.

Alternatively for the Sky Base transition they could make it take place after Scrap Brain and give FZ a Sky Base tile makeover similar to the 8 bit game instead of using Scrap Brain tiles.

Oh, for Sonic 2, add flying for Tails for character diversity and, if the engine is advanced enough, more levels playable in VS mode.

Oh, maybe add the unused Sound Test as an unlockable.

Sorry for double post, EDIT button doesn't work.

Even though that's still MIDI with the FM arrangement. Actually it would sound more like this, considering those arrangements were meant to be heard on an OPL synth, which were far more common in home compueters at SKC's release, rather than something like the Roland SC-88 (which is what the gm.dls found in the windows directory is based off of, actually).

For a remake? Widescreen and bugfixes. That's all I care about.

I would rather have these levels be regulated to either bonus unlockable levels or reworked into 2-Player race stages (a la Sonic 3's 2-Player stages). This way, the main core game's 'purity' remains (something SEGA seemed to care about in the CD remake).

It's quite interesting to see all this interest for the MS and GG games, is there any reason (besides lack of interest) for the lack of conversions from MS/GG-->/MD/GEN now that we have disassemblies of the engines and engines made to replicate the 16bits physics in game making engines?

I hope that's out for this year's SAGE. That with Mercury's amazing physics is just going to blow my mind.

Woah, those are some admitedly good 16 bit sprite conversions there (par some recycled CD/3+K background here and there). Add in a more original sprite sheet for Sonic and it might make a worthy remake.

Sonic Chaos might be good for a practice project, though I admit the game was pretty basic so would likely require a bit of level retooling here and there (eg. more badniks and obstacles, longer levels).

How about a 'Sonic and Tails' collection?

    why ;_;

Everything else looks quite good, although there probably shouldn't be so many recycled backgrounds and whatnot.
I wouldn't have suspected it as a fan-game, actually, although I suppose Sonic's position a.k.a. the camera style is quite a giveaway.

Honestly, I'm tired of reboots, remakes, and ports. What happened to getting an original title that wasn't trying so hard to be something that it's just not?

  15. The age of "retro remixes" happened.

This. It's what everyone's been doing, though it seems to have died down (ignoring the NSMB2 racoon tail return spoils). I'm hoping to see more originality in the future though, I'm ready for them to start MAKING classics in this day and age instead of relying on the ones from the past to bail them out of financial troubles.

It's funny, the same thing happened to fan gaming that happened to the games industry. Back when fan gaming first started, there wasn't much to work with in the beginning, and a Sonic engine couldn't be replicated due to the limitations of software creation tools and what have you. People had to be more creative and use their imaginations more, and it gave fan games a charm of their own. Now, again just like the games industry, with every release it feels like the same shit, different game name.

Either way, my point still stands. Something seems lost in it all, everyone wants to create the next Sonic CD, or Sonic 2.
