making cool music no one gives a shit about
Shadow needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine.

I think we need Shadow & Omega's Excellent Adventure.

More intended humour and cinematic cutscenes. For some reason Bayonetta 2 pops up in my head. I'm sure there are better examples, but the way Bayonetta 2 constantly throws new, unpredictable ideas at you, all the while looking absolutely gorgeous and playing like a dream, is something I could very much see working for Shadow as well.

Hey, what if the next mainline game would come in two editions, say, Hero and Dark, similar to the Pokémon games?

I just want Mephiles to reappear, and become kinda what Metal Sonic is to Sonic. I don’t know why, but I really like the dynamic between them, especially after playing Shadow Gens.

Something about this character is just really appealing to me.

Ultimately I don't think Shadow is different enough from Sonic to be interesting (unless you add guns I guess). I'd prefer to just hVe multiple campaigns in Sonic games again. Or better yet, Sonic and Knuckles 2.

This can't happen now, but I had wanted to retool Terios into a in-between prototype that was completely unstable and got sealed after almost destroying himself. Then he gets unlesashed and wrecks havoc. The point is to show the contrast between Terios, who is similar to Shadow at his worst, and Shadow in the present. I would keep the references to the past as a minimum, we've had enough of them, but as a clear sign of Shadows character development. It wouldn't be just Shadow but Team Dark and others to redefine Shadow's relationships and character as grumpy and rough but ultimately a good person.

Sonic X Shadow Unleashed seems like a pretty easy layup.

I think Doom powers were mostly interesting additions to his moveset, but obviously they can't redo that. If we ever get another Shadow game I'd like more focus on Chaos powers and combat depth to differentiate him from Sonic. Chaos Control and Spear in X Gens were a good start, as they're pretty good additions and have some flexibility in their use (tho I imagine Spear giving you more momentum in the air was unintentional but it's still cool). I say that without having any clue what they'll do with the obligatory Frontiers sequel, which might drop combat or might make it more in-depth. We'll have to see.

Metal Sonic was a really cool character who used to have some relevance in his appearances and was played as a great threat and equal to Sonic, before being reduced to a recurring boss who lost everything about him that was interesting and has had no plot relevance whatsoever. He just does up for a boss fights, gets his arse handed to him and leaves.

You want Mephiles to be that?

I don't like Mephiles as a character. He's very generic and very shallow. But if we take what he was supposed to be, he served as a great one off adversary who's story is now done and dusted. His comeback in ShG was great for what it was, but that's all the Mephiles I'd ever want tbh.

I think what it's really speaking to is that Shadow, if he had his own ongoing spinoff, needs a consistent recurring villain. I don't think anyone we've seen up to this point in the series is really good enough. You need a strong personality, and Eggman is the only Sonic villain with one.

I think a Shadow spin off series would be better suited in having a bunch of one and doners than having an Eggman 2 that's always concocting another scheme each entry to defeat Shadow. Getting bored of Sonic stories always being Eggman + Whatever Ancient Evil he decides to wake up this week.

"Oh, so you want him to be a jobber with no plot relevance like metal sonic? CURIOUS."

I'm genuinely asking. Like, Metal Sonic is just a recurring boss, dolled out for fan service. He's been that for most of his appearances, especially recent ones. Forte specifically said "I just want Mephiles to reappear, and become kinda what Metal Sonic is to Sonic". Some people still love it when Metal Sonic appears 'just because' and think his earlier appearances justify him appearing now.

I think it's kind of unfair to say that about Mephiles so preemptively -- or, to some extent, even to Metal Sonic. The problem with Metal Sonic, and the reason why he became just a random recurring boss, is that technology/artificiality have stopped being the biggest threat to Sonic and his world a million years ago already. We've been more worried about aliens than about robots for a long while now.

But Mephiles still exerts that kind of automatic power on Shadow, constantly being a bitch in his ear like "yeah but WHAT IF people turn on you some day?". So as long as Mephiles is a reflection of Shadow on the themes he's dealing with, wanting him to appear automatically means he isn't just a recurring boss. It's a reasonable thing to want, because it does mean wanting everything that comes along. Since they don't seem to be able to do anything else with Shadow, it's... kind of safe I guess.

yeah these are pretty much my thoughts too. I feel like with a recurring villain you get diminishing returns every subsequent time they show up. Like, if Black Doom showed up yet again and was like "I'll get you next time you blasted hedgehog!" it would suck. It works for Sonic because Eggman is inherently a goofy and comical villain lol.

I'd rather just see new characters altogether. Makes the world feel larger if there are more threats outside of the ones we've seen already.

It'd be pretty cool also because in Marvel and DC comics sometimes the rogue's galleries of heroes are mixed up on occasion and you'd have something like Superman fighting Joker or Batman fighting Lex Luthor. If Shadow got his own unique reoccuring villain, it could make for better world building. Plots could be more diverse too I believe. More independent villains makes the world feel larger.

Agreed, Sonic himself needs more recurring baddies, that's one strength Archie had if nothing else. We kinda had something with Eggman Nega, but he's so literally a palette swap with a dangerous-to-pronounce name that we basically didn't get anything interesting, and now that's been dropped for...not really the Deadly Six. Because they haven't actually had a significant role that matters in any main game past Lost World, they've just piggybacked off of Eggman at most.
