I'll start with mine: Live and learn, I am... All of me, SATAM Robotnik's theme and Look-a-like from the Sonic OVA
I'm being serious! It sounds like complete noise at first, but once you peel back the layers you realize it's just prog but with poor sound design.
oh that is hard. Frontiers and its DLC OST are definitely Up There in terms of favorites, with Sonic 06 and Adventure close behind.
Sonic CD (JPN) will probably always be the peak. Tidal Tempest Present, Collision Chaos Good Future, and Toot Toot Sonic Warrior (especially) are sublime. Though I do like the US Soundtrack too just prefer the melodic style of the JPN soundtrack. but for a more obscure answer Sonic Advance 2 with Hot Crater and Sonic Rush Adventure with Coral Cave are among my other favorites among favorites. I also like Sonic Shuffle's soundtrack, I used it a lot in animations I used to make, works well for goofy stuff like that. Edit: My top 3 though would be 1. Sonic CD (Both, but if I had to choose JPN) 2. Sonic 3&K (Prototype CNZ especially included) 3. Sonic Adventure
If I had to pick a single one? Generations easily has the widest variety of songs and genres. The album is basically a greatest hits of sonic music over the years, sure your missing some stellar tracks but what’s there is a great time.
For me it's gotta be Sonic Riders (and I'm actually playing the game right now). You can't go wrong with a banger like Digital Dimension's theme or... heck, Sonic Speed Riders.
Top 5, ranked in order. 1. Sonic CD (both versions, mods make them interchangeable for me now. It's all one incredible OST. Possibly my gaming GOAT.) 2. Sonic Adventure (The only one to produce as many original memorable tunes as SCD in full Redbook quality) 3. S3&K (Best Mega Drive OST, easily. MJ Songs and beta replacements both included.) 4. Sonic Generations (Yes, lots of remixes, but oh my god are they GOOD remixes) 5. Sonic Mania (See above) Honorable mentions; Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic 2, Sonic Rush, Sonic 1, Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic Colors, Sonic Heroes. There are very few Sonic OSTs I don't in fact like, but those are the top. Even the 8-bit games have a lot of tunes I love the hell out of and enjoy remixes of (Bridge Zone and 8-bit Scrap Brain FTW).
The best Sonic soundtracks are Sonic Adventure Sonic CD (both) Sonic Colors Sonic Unleashed Sonic Frontiers I will not be accepting @'s at this time
Hey, if we want this thread to keep going, it might be cool if we also had a bit of discussion. Don't just list some soundtracks and call it a day - explain a bit about what makes it your favorite. Why the songs might stir something deep within you that makes you keep coming back to them time after time. Like, the Japanese Sonic CD soundtrack. That's one that I always go back to. Back in the day when people still put MP3's on an iPod instead of streaming everything forever (for a small fee, of course), I would make sure that soundtrack was on any device I had with me. Especially once the Taxman version of the songs came out. I do love me some loops with unexpected breakdowns. Those songs feel of a time, echo a musical style that I would have been too young to fully appreciate had that soundtrack been the one we got in the United States. The first time I finally was able to hear those songs, they were a revelation. Mind you, I enjoyed the "Special Edition" soundtrack, and would listen to those ethereal soundscapes on my CD player, but the Japanese songs were wild. They were funky. They felt alive! Hell, when I first heard the Japanese boss theme, I was taken aback for more than one reason. The sample, "Work that Sucker To Death," was instantly recognizable to me. When I was very young, my mother used to listen to that song all the time. I don't know how she found it, but it was there in her cassette playlist. It felt like I was in on a secret. Probably my first time understanding sampling, even if it wasn't the first time I was exposed to it. Sonic Adventure is also one of my favorite soundtracks, if only because of the wide variety of musical styles that are in it. It wasn't just rock music, it wasn't just R&B. Man, I love the horns in Amy's theme, and Red Mountain might be one of my favorite tracks in the entire series. I'm sure I could write more but this is just off the top of my head trying to show what would be cool for this thread to become. Have a cool jam.
