About a month ago, I saw a picture in someone's signature of a Sonic 2 level select with a TON more levels, most of which just had two digits for names, or were called "Level 01", "Level 03", etc. But it intrigued me, and I'd like to know more about what that one was...

Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

That was most likely "Neo" trying to show off that he learned to edit the level select text. There weren't actually that many levels.

It wouldn't be that hard to add as many slots to allocate for all the level select entries, though. I just wonder who'd be willing to go through all the trouble to design all those levels... and who would be willing to play them all. =P

I'd probably be willing to design that many levels, but as you said, unless the game contained a load/save feature, nobody would bother playing it.

Looking for a Rom Hack to Test.
If I was any good at Sonic Hacking alltogether id have a go at making lots of levels. I was thinking that for my potential hack Sonic 2 The Return that I would make Hidden Palace into 3 Zones and drop a Metropolis Zone.

Besides if the levels are designed good enough then it'd be worth playing through.

Designing that many levels, and doing a good job at it, would be so tedious.

that's the same idea that I had. Adding S1 and 3 zones just for fun.

Aren't you doing that anyway in Project Chaos though? 'Cause the time zones are all different levels aren't they?

Well yeah, so technically I'm doing 65 zones already (16 x 4, then the final zone is one timezone only). Still, each timezone has similarities to the previous one so it isn't too bad. If I was to make 65 fresh new zones with no similarities between them it'd be more of a challenge.

"More of a challenge"? You'd be mad to do it. :P

Maybe, but it's something worth considering.

Any hack that took 65 zones that are completely new would either need multiple people to work on it at once, or else it would probably literally take many years to do. I doubt anyone has the patience to do that.

Well, it would be an accomplishment in itself for having 65 levels, even if the hacking scene has switched focus.

I don't really see much of that happening since "NEW SONIX SUX."

I'm not saying it won't come in time, but seriously. Why hack a game you hate? Unless everyone just happens to be sarcastic about how they hate Sonic Adventure 2 and up.

Now if you are talking about new members coming to do it, I will wait and see.

I was also thinking that a Sonic game with 60 acts (hence 30 zones) would need 30 bosses. You all know that the hacks with more levels just reuse some bosses from other levels (e.g. MCZ boss in HPZ).

As for the variety, if someone wants to do an hack with 60 levels, he can post a request on the forum asking people to draw some levels for him, like Tweaker did some months ago for his megamix. Each forum user may post a couple of levels (or more if he feels to) and it will be a community hack. I wasn't around here yet when Stealth made that Sonic CD thing, but I seem to recall that the goal was similar.
In fact, I think it would be a cool idea to release an hack with levels from different people.

I probably should get back to work on my site someday...
That sounds nice, but it seems that whenever a group things is attempted in this community, it always falls through.
