Either them, or who ever does the Ace Attorney soundtracks :)

It depends on the vibe each particular zone is giving off, for me. However, the genre that I often associate with Sonic is punk. A good example of the sound I have in mind is in MxPx's "Secret Weapon" album. Fast drums, driving bass and shredding guitar riffs. It also goes along with the established Sonic "Attitude."

But I don't think that all of Sonic can be summed up in one genre. For bosses and final levels, I think a band like The Devil Wears Prada would match it well; their songs build up tension and are purely epic.

You guys are totally on the wrong track. No trance, no rock- what Sonic needs is straight up disco, funk and/or oldschool house. Occasional genre offshoots are permissible so long as it results in something highly derivative. Basically, just do everything SCD JP did.

It really depends on the level. For example, I always thought Hydrocity would have a jazzy sound. Lo and behold, Project Chaos came out. "Walk on Water" is exactly how I thought the music should for that level.

As good as a musician Jun Senoue is, I don't think guitars and drums suit every level/ scenario. After a while, you get ear fatigue and want to listen to something else, of another style. I like what he did for Sonic 4, especially Mad Gear (Act 3...wow). It sounds like a 16-bit Sonic game.
