Gemel and Emerl were obviously the same... That was the whole plot behind it. Plus, they even take some of his sprites from battle and edit them for his new body.

  2. Hoo boy... I don't want to get into yet another argument in this topic, but I'll just say that the reason some of the sprites are the same/edited versions is probably because they are designed to look the same, even though I'm pretty sure they aren't.

The names of the two sound too co-incidental... Wasn't the whole idea that after Battle Eggman found Emerl and rebuilt him as Gemel? Either way, he was one of the best characters they've created recently. His story was pretty interesting, and the whole "you have to destroy me!" ending was a little different. Then they actually brought him back and had Sonic fight him again only this time to save him from Eggman. He had more depth than a lot of the other characters they've made that just came out of no where (Cream!) and were to be accepted. At least Gemel/Emerl had a decent story behind him... They could have even at least made him Cream's bodyguard after the ending in Advance 3. Imagine the gameplay mechanics they could have implimented with a character that copies moves.

    Little errors:
Tikal was in SA1, SA2 (2players) and could be seen in Advance3 in a Chao mode
Big was in SA1, SA2 (appearances), Shuffle and Heroes
    Gamma was in Shuffle too
Cream was in advance 2 too.

Cream also co-hosts the Casinopolis along with Cheese in Sonic Pinball Party, aswell as being the one to drop the Ice Stone in Station Square in Sonic Adventure DX, game in which she also makes cameo appearences in signs from Mission mode. But if you don't count that, then you can't count Shadow the Hedgehog either, since she only appears as a mission item in Cryptic Castle.

Yes I totally agree, get rid of them. All we really need is Sonic, okay and maybe Tails, and of course Robotnik. I also hate how he is now primarily known as Eggman.

It was his original name. It was changed for the American market.

That is correct. IIRC, it was changed because they thought "Eggman" wouldn't appeal to the Western market. Were they right in doing so?

Robotnik suited the more mature feel of the older Sonic games I think. Eggman is ok for the newer games, but it really shows you how they've changed targets. Probably due to the fact they're mostly mkaing the Sonic games for Nintendo, even if some of them are multiplatform

  11. Funny, I've always thought about it the other way around. I mean, "Robotnik?" C'mon, how lame is that? And I really don't think you can say that starting to call him "Eggman" in the west, when he's always been called that in the east, where the game came from, is evidence of "kiddyfication." That's pretty silly when you think about it.

Actually, I'd say it is the complete other way around. The newer games are much, much darker and serious (ever since Sonic Adventure) what with all this military stuff, aliens, angst, guns, expiremtns. Its sad, we've really lost the spirit of Sonic with Adventure 2 and Shadow. Seems that the kid audience these days needs to have ansgt and swear words every ten seconds.

Actually, to be honest, the only "Dark" (and stupid) new Sonic games to me are Adventure 2 and Shadow. Realism, guns, and angst do not a Sonic game make. Sonic Adventure's story, however, was awesome, and Heroes wasn't anything bad.

    Robotnik > Eggman. Period.

Just the name "Robotnik" is more powerful than "Eggman".

  14. Depends on who you ask, apparently, because we already have two people for each opinion. So I don't know about that "period," there.

I'm sorry but I feel the western market should have kept Robotnik. It just sounds much better, especially because the guy builds and is fantasized by robots. Eggman just doesn't ring true to me, as it was always Dr. Robotnik in the western world, they should have just kept it. Even though Eggman is the original, Robotnik is what he was originally known by in the US and UK, should have kept it.

  16. Both Robotnik and Eggman are still cannon because, obviously Robotnik's called Eggman in Japan and now in the English versions, while the Robotnik name was finally introduced to the Japanese with SA2, with well, Gerald Robotnik and Maria Robotnik.

And I loath the name "Eggman". I don't care if it's the original designer's intention, Robotnik was what I grew up with and it suits the character much more.

In S2, the text on the Wing Fortress clearly reads "EGGMAN". =P

This topic is the most pointless things ever, due to it was initially about adding new chars and now everyone is starting to bitch about Robotnik > Eggman. But I do have to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH SONIC TEAM!

That's Sonic 2 though, not Sonic 1. And even if the developers didn't bother to update the level with the word Robotnik on the US and UK version, he was still known as Robotnik.

Even if it said Eggman on wing fortress, they obviously left this over from the Japanese version. But he was still known as Robotnik in the west, and it's what everyone in the western world grew up with. So it feels a con when the Sonic Team all of a sudden introduce the original 'Eggman' name in the newer games, in the UK and US. We always knew him as Robotnik you see. Plus it sounds better if you ask me.

  20. Personally, I always hated the name Robotnik from the first time I heard it, although for quite the asinine reason; a glance at my username should reveal my first name, and the pronunciation of it happens to coincide with the pronunciation of the last syllable of Robotnik.

But this is a rather moot point; anyone can call the character whatever they want. Hell, they could call him "Cueball" for all I care. It doesn't change who the character is. This whole "Robotnik vs. Eggman" argument is a pointless waste of time.
