Hack (V3) Sonic 2: Bootleg Edition (proof of concept)

  1. what if Sonic 2 was bad?

    this hack changes the physics (Sonic accelerates instantly, making precision platforming hard, and the gravity is slightly changed), some parts of the level layouts (adds 5 rings at the beginning of Death Egg, for instance, to make up for the physics changes), and all of the music is worsened.

    please be aware that some of the changes make some routes impossible. while this was initially a mistake, I decided not to go back and fix it unless it makes completing the level impossible. the reason for this is that bootlegs often appear un-playtested, and I wanted to mirror this aspect here. I was most inspired by Sonic 3D Blast 5.

    in case none of the above convinced you yet, this hack is bad, and purposefully so. please play at your own risk!

    as of right now, not much has changed in the main game, but this will change as I release new updates.

  3. oh yeah, this was brought to my attention haha.
    both of us have different directions though-- you wanted to imitate crappy fangames of Game Maker, while I wanted to imitate the crappy bootlegs, particularly Sonic 3D Blast 5 and Sonic Adventure 7, as stated in my post.
    later versions will have different graphics if I get around to it. =P
    they also probably will change the music again, as going back and relistening Yong Yong's Sonic bootleg songs, they're much crappier than what I did here. I'll have to edit the song data itself, not just the headers and voices. =P

    Version 3 is out!
    it modifies some of Emerald Hill zone 1, and completely overhauls Emerald Hill zone 2 (or, does it?)
    EH zone 2 is a lot more frustrating to pass than ever before! can you get through?
    as well, some of the behaviour of the monitor and monitor contents objects has been changed.
    some residual data has also been removed, but the biggest(?) change is the addition of a secret feature... if you pause the game and press A, it's fun to try it!
