Say what you want about the rest of their output, but 4Kids knew how to make a catchy-ass theme song. Hell, their Pokemon theme might just be one of the most iconic in television history, up there with Friends, The Simpsons, Seinfeld and Twin Peaks. And I'm not even joking when I say that the Pirate Rap is genuinely one of the best One Piece openings.
That is not unpopular opinion. Everyone likes it including USA. Hence why people keep quoting "Gotta Go Fast" as if it's Sonic's catchphrase or something.
The Arabic dub uses the same song. It's a bummer too, a lot of Arabic anime dubs cover the Japanese intro and usually do a great job of it. When I was looking it up I was hoping to find something like this instead of "Sonic X, Sonic EEEEeeeecks, SONIC, Sonic X": Pokemon is definitely iconic, but even their Shaman King opening is one of my all time favorites.
I think that they should've done more with the Fast Friends Forever comics. I really like the concept. A bunch of different artists doing their own unique Sonic comics. I think they could've used it as a way to bring back old Sonic artists. Gimme new comics by Spaz, Milton Knight, Scott Shaw, the whole bunch! You know what? SCREW IT. SEGA should get a bunch of animators together to make one big, weird, expirimental Sonic anthology film. Make their only restrictions be that they have to have something to do with the IP and be within the PG rating. Just make Garfield: His 9 Lives, but with Sonic. TerminalMontage works with Frederator. Have them produce it. Lemme see Ahlbum Sonic.
What legal challenges will be faced in the production of a SEGA-coproduced anthology film? Are you talking about the inclusion of characters SEGA doesn't own?
Having a bunch of off-brand shorts is kinda the big thing about this hypothetical film of mine. It's not like the Sonic brand itself is consistent. Remember, we have the Classic, Modern, and Movie canons all coexisting with each other. Besides, if you want the shorts to be on-brand, just set more guidelines for the artists.
THIS IS SO COOOL i know this is veering off topic but i didnt want to let this pass without saying that it owns. what a neat take on such a good song
Guys, something's on my mind that I'd like to share with you. It might sound corny, but hear me out. My PS4 is my most powerful gaming device. I only got it last year, so I was mostly catching up on some games. Backlog's cleared for now. But when I had to pick which game to tackle next, I decided on Sonic Frontiers again. It would look better than the Switch version and run better than the PC version that I've been playing. This evening, I finished what must have been my sixth or seventh playthrough of that game (vanilla localized, English, and Japanese, on PC + one for the Final Horizon DLC, but I could swear I also did one on Easy in handheld mode on Switch), 100%ed it as per usual, and came to the ultimate conclusion that, yes, this is a good game. Graphics and story aside, the gameplay loop just works, it's easy to get into, and packed with content. Game gets a solid 8 from me. Immediately after that, I finally bit and installed Sonic X Shadow Generations... You know, I've played this game (Sonic Gens) excessively over the last couple of years and got really good at it, but coming right off of Frontiers, I'm not feeling it anymore. Only 1h in and I'm already fed up. If I was put on the spot right now, I'd say Sonic Frontiers is the better game.
Unpopular Sonic opinions? Alright I don't like Sonic 2. I find it to be a downgrade compared to Sonic 1. It's not a terrible game, but I just don't have fun playing it. I find most levels to be not as memorable as Sonic 1 or future Sonic games beyond Casino Night and Chemical Plant (and Metropolis for the wrong reasons), and it really falls off after Casino Night imo. The Special Stages are the worst of the Classic Sonic series, and something I actively avoid. The music is good, but isn't really as catchy as other Sonic games. Also, keep your Labyrinth Zone hate, I'd rather play an entire Sonic game made up of Labyrinth Zone than play zones like Oil Ocean. Why did it return in Sonic Mania?
I didn't think I would ever reach a point where I really *liked* Oil Ocean but I came pretty close after playing Mania because it really hammered home just how breezy of a level it actually is, even if it does have some cheap shots. Oh I can actually beat each act in a couple minutes? *Delightful*
I just think it's uglier compared to 1/CD/3&Knuckles. Like there's a few exceptions but I don't like the sprites or level art direction in general.
(I know, it's in 2013 remake / Origins version, but...) I think it's funny the prettiest stage of the game was a deleted one, which was Hidden Palace Zone.
I have a lot of nostalgia for it and if I remember right it might've actually been the first game I ever played, but I agree that Sonic 2 is just a lot less pleasant of an experience than any of the other classic games. 1 and CD have their own unique issues but the fact that you can kinda take them at your own pace and have a good time helps a lot. 3&K is easily the best. 2 has that huge difficulty spike with a lot of what feels like annoying bullshit to me, and I don't really like the art direction as much as any of the others.
Is there something to make Sonic 2 MD/Gen better? Let's face it. It was developed by SoA rather than SoJ, hence the art direction is completely different.
It's my (possibly unpopular, hence the thread) opinion that Sonic 2's art "direction" is a mishmash of conflicting styles from zone to zone, with very few of them sharing an aesthetic. Had I the technical skill to do so, I'd love to make a hack someday that aims to bring the look and feel of the game more in line with the first game (which isn't everyone's favourite but is mine).
