    41% completed Sonic Frontiers on PS5? That's a lot!

I was going to say that developers are making games that are too long, but Sonic Colours is only five hours long, and the majority hasn't even beat that.

Maybe for the less-than-popular systems, like Xbox or Saturn. But it's only a matter of time before emulation of every system becomes indistinguishable from the real thing. And even if it's not 100% perfectly accurate to the real thing, how's that any different from a bluray restoration not looking like how it would look on a 1960s film projector? I'm all for preservation, but I also believe in knowing when to say "good enough".

  3. Probably rarely ever considered just because of how challenging it is to make a single Sonic level and the series' constant battle with game length. Shadow 05 flirted with the idea but since most of its gameplay was much more mission based as opposed to traditional linear gameplay, I doubt Sonic Team ever considered trying it properly.

I think it couldve worked out though, especially with how elaborate and intricate some levels in the series can get, having alternate exits gives more reason to engage with all the alternate routes. Not to mention games like Colors and Lost World would've benefitted from not making players experience a bunch of their worst levels back to back to back.

No. Software can only get you so far, because the performance requirements for cycle-accurate emulation are insane, and Moore's Law is dead. To illustate, NEStopia, a cycle-accurate NES emulator, requires an 800 Mhz CPU at the bare minimum to emulate a 1983 system that has a weak 1,79 Mhz CPU.
What's your point, exactly? That we should stop all decompilation efforts because we can just emulate?

  5. That is shockingly high. Very good completion rate for a decent length game.

Regarding Colors, it took me about 10 years to beat it because I didn’t find the little bit size stages that fun at the time. They’ve grown on me since then, but I can see others bouncing off if all they want is to boost through big, traditional stages.

…though this is probably what leads to Kishimoto talking about making Forces super automated so people can beat it lol. Can someone check the stats on that?

You can check the PlayStation trophies list for Sonic Forces. If I'm interpreting the table correctly (because the number changes when I hover the mouse over it and I don't know what that means), the "Saved the World" trophy sits at 24,89%.

  7. Thanks. I had just woken up and was writing from my iPad which I hate having to browse from.

I would not use the Playstation numbers as an indicator for Forces. Like I mentioned before, it was a PS+ game. That's going to inflate the number of players.

  10. That's closer to what I expected. Some games also get reputations as being easy Platinums which also leads to high numbers. Certain niche games or games with committed fanbases also skew high (e.g. Shenmue rereleases, Persona games). The PS+ release of Forces definitely screw those numbers.

I just realised that Chimpo already included them too lol. I was very tired and read Forces as Frontiers. The whole PS+ comment makes sense now as I was confused when that ever got a PS+ release.

  11. Classic Sonic being mute in the games is the worst thing to happen to the character since they tried to make him from another dimension (on a side note, it would've worked if it was explained better than it was in Forces). Classic Sonic spoke ever since the beginning, the tech just didn't allow it, but when it did, he did. He spoke in Sega Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic CD, but ever since they (supposedly) couldn't get Jaleel White to voice him in Generations he's been mute ever since. I loved "I'm outter here!" and "Yes!" in CD, and it's a shame he doesn't do that anymore. Superstars would've been an opportune time to have him say little one-word phrases like that for things like when he passes a goalpost.

That's not an unpopular opinion, though. Everyone dislikes Classic Sonic being mute IIRC.

Ehh I'm mixed on it. On the one hand, it is fuckin ridiculous to have everyone except classic Sonic talk like in Generations. On the other, it's much harder to fuck up his personality that way.

    I'm fine with it.

  15. I think creative choices like this dictated by fan reactions are pretty dumb tbh. Especially when it leads to inconsistencies like this.

I don't really care about Sonic talking or not, because people would have gotten over it eventually, or at least, the complainers would have to suck it up.

I'm perfectly happy with Classic being mute.

I'm also looking forward to 2024 being over.

Can't wait for the Adventure 2 remake to be announced for 2025.

  18. This is most amount of buzz this franchise has had since 2022, and you think this is just gonna be a one off?

Shadow will be replacing Tails and appear in every sonic game going forward
