It's too bad you're going through all this hassle. I plugged my netbook running Ubuntu 8.10 into a surfboard once with USB and it connected automatically.
...wow, unlucky me, I guess. xD; Anyhoo, I managed to get a couple of steps closer. Wvdial and stuff are installed, and I even found a nice little program thingy that could run my USB modem (Vodafone Mobile Connect, I use a similiar one, except that mine's Orange :v, but I need a package called "ozerocdoff", and I just can't find the i386 architecture one. I even asked my friend to help, he only got the avr32 one. Also, I started effing around with the graphics card and even got two drivers. I was required to run it in the root account, and so I did, but all the terminal did was pop up for a split second, do nothing, and dissapear. Any advice would be helpful. EDIT: Using an alternative way to run the driver thing as root, I get this. EDIT 2: EDIT MADE FROM UBUNTU, AHAHAHA! FINALLY I MADE IT WORK. YESSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Well since you're online using Ubuntu now, you can install the nVidia drivers the "easy" way. Click System, Administration, Hardware Drivers. It should list the nVidia driver, which can be activated by clicking the "Activate" button.
It worked. I'm using Ubu and I heaps love using Ubu. And I heaps love you guys in the most hetero way possible. <3
Now enjoy Ubuntu's speed when browsing.. something I noticed today. Windows (at least these two installations) works DAMN TOO SLOW when it comes to browsing.. :/. Well, congrats I guess :P
