UGH I'm trying to install wine on this god awful OS and I keep getting this error saying this: The following packages have unmet dependencies: wine1.2: Depends: libmpg123-0 (>= 1.6.2) but it is not installable Depends: libopenal1 but it is not installable E: Broken packages Any ideas on how to fix this dilemma?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu You'll probably want to make sure that all four primary repositories (main, universe, restricted, multiverse) are enabled.
Ya they're all checked off, still not sure why this isn't working as I hoped it would though EDIT: Alright Wine has been installed. Now to figure out how to make Gens work in it properly... or anything work properly in it for that matter. I assume that once I fix this nasty problem I'll fix others as well
What happens when you try to manually install libopenal yourself? Which version of Ubuntu are you using? Are you trying to install the wine that is in the Ubuntu repositories or the wine that's in the wine repositories?
In Ubuntu, you should be using the Synaptic Package Manager to do installs. It will take care of those dependencies for you.
=P two minutes too late but thank you anyway. Sort of in a tight spot. I'm more comfortable with Windows but after fucking up the hard drive I can't really go back.
Gens? Why aren't you using GerbilSoft's Gens/GS? There's a native Linux version and there's even a pre-compiled debian for it. I believe you can simply double-click that to install if your using Ubuntu. (Hardcore users might use dpkg -I to install, but Ubuntu should permit double-click installing by default). If there aren't linux native versions of your games, try checking appdb.winehq.org for details on which programs are and aren't compatible. For many programs, scrolling down on the programs entry page will provide you with instructions for installing, but it may or may not be relevant to the version of wine you have installed.
Actually I noticed GerbilSoft's Gens/GS a couple minutes later and went to download that. Seems kinda laggy though, at least when there is sound on. Eh, it's playable. Also I got SADX to work. And because of the fact that I can change the resolution in Wine, no more ugly looking stretched out defaults :D
Set sound to 44,100 Hz, enable OpenGL (Graphics, Backends, SDL+OpenGL), and turn on VSync. There's a minor issue with OpenGL VSync right now where if you switch to another app, the audio skips. I need to figure out what's causing that so I can fix it.
Hmm, it doesn't like it when I set the sound to 44,100 Hz. It'll skip around for a while then freeze. However enabling the other options does help with the lag a bit in 22,000 whatever it is, although the sound is delayed. I'm using Gens 2.15.5/GS-m6 if that means anything.
Try the m7 beta. I dunno if that would make a difference, but I personally have never had a single problem with Gens/GS.
Alright the new version works a bit better for me. Still not 100% or as good as it was on Windows but it's basically the same. Keeping it at Frame Skip 0 seems to work better than Auto though, which is the opposite of how the Windows version seems to perform
More stuff confusing me. 1. I'm trying to install ePSXe and I'm having the worst time doing so. Help? 2. Does Sonic Heroes work in Wine. If it does what am I doing wrong?
To be completely honest, I have never ever managed to get ePSXe working. The emulator I normally use is called pSX, but it is limited in many ways so.... I'm going to assume you're using the latest version of Ubuntu, 9.10. If this is the case, then chances are that libgtk 1.2 is not installed because the newer and possibly superior libgtk2 is installed. If it isn't in your repositories (that is to say, if it can't be downloaded via synaptic), then you either have to manually install these packages by downloading all the required .deb files from the repositories for an earlier version of Ubuntu, OR you simply use a different emulator. I'm told that PCSX has vastly improved in recent years or something. Edit: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...on&iId=5977 According to this, it does work, though a "NoCD" patch may have to be applied. Your mileage may vary.
EDIT: Never mind I got Yabause installed. yay I'm getting the hang of this :D EDIT 2: Fuck it, I still would prefer SSF in Wine. Anyway I could do that (I forgot Yabause sucks)
Okay, let me get this straight, you want Ubuntu, but you want all these Windows games.... why not dualboot...
I don't have a windows disc unfortunately. I'm waiting to get one back, but if I can use one OS it might be pretty good.
