Because Typing of the Dead is better. On-rails shooters with a mouse are one of the boringest things.
Yup, for PC it's a better game when played in the Typing of the Dead mode, unless you get your Wiimote to work as a mouse.
Damn this is a fun game! And at half off for the Halloween Steam sale, it's a pretty good deal. Can't wait for online co-op.
I wonder where they got the phrases you have to type from. In a video I saw someone had to type "Move ZIG."
The final boss is pretty creative. It + - asks you to type words associated with the main characters, like Motherfucker for Issac Washington. Unfortunately, you can also type anything you want, albeit for less damage. You can just type in jibberish really quickly to beat Mother. Both are kind of funny, if you can imagine just nonsense coming out of the characters mouths when firing a minigun .
Bump for game development insight. According to this Gamasutra piece, Typing Overkill started at Blitz Games Studios in June, but they went into liquidation in September. While in liquidation, the studio renegotiated their contract with Sega to let them finish the game in six weeks. These ex-Blitz staffers were shoved into Modern Dream, which was a side project for a manager's indie games to keep Sega on board through their new contract. After doing coding the indie way in an apartment for a while, Sega offered the team space in Hardlight (Sonic Dash devs) offices to ship the game. It's fucking nuts this game even happened after all that drama. Good on Sega for letting them see it through.
Like most other games, this one chugs on my laptop but it's still fun. The phrases really are hilarious sometimes.
That reminds me of the character name generator in Disgaea 4 (I think) where they pretty much had an online web form accepting public submission to be included in the game. There were some... interesting results.
The US dictionary replaces all the UK spellings with US spellings, but doesn't replace UK-exclusive expressions. It's caught me off guard a few times.
All I'll say is that it's very refreshing for a UK localisation to even BE in a game, never mind taking preference in some situations. Usually the UK release of a game is the US one, untouched - spelling differences and all.
I would've preferred if it only had a UK localization. The US dictionary comes across as half-assed, and looks less professional than if the game had been done exclusively in UK-mode.
Online multiplayer update just hit, and $3 Shakespeare DLC dictionary is up as well. No local multiplayer seems to be available.
Bump. For...uh... Did I mention this add-on is free? I wonder how often I'll be typing things related to kicking a ball in a field... EDIT: Screens. I'll give them credit: I did not once type the words foot, ball, or kick in the entire level I played. Kudos, Modern Dream.
