I bought my little bro all this awesome retro sega stuff for Christmas (model 2 genesis/cd, 32X, etc) and my 32X wont work. Allow me to elaborate: All AV/power cables triple-checked Insert cartridge, turn on, "produced by..." text shows, then all black Happens with both Genesis and 32X cartridges When playing a Sega CD game, no problems I checked out a few troubleshooting guides (32X manual no help whatsoever, "Are you certain the TV is in the ON position?") and Sonic CulT's seems to be the best. I am willing to open it up, but I noticed that the guide says that Genesis carts will always work through the 32X. But they don't. I bought this on eBay and the dude SWEARS he tested everything before he listed it, so I'm kinda torn about what I should do. Is opening it up even worth a shot, or do you Sega experts think it's just fried or something? I'd hate to have to buy another one... Thanks for your help, and merry/happy Christmas
If you unplug your 32X (keep the unit in the cartridge slot, but don't link it up to the power/Mega Drive, Mega Drive cartridges should pass through (or at least they do on mine). just fyi

I know your fears, my brother, I bought a 32X from Digital Press once, which is a HIGHLY reputable video game shop here in New Jersey, and it took me a while to get it to work, and it even wouldn't work sometimes then. Make sure everything's clean, including the Genesis itself, and even the Sega CD just to be safe, then do what Black Squirrel said and make sure it's unplugged so at least Genesis games will work. If it's still not working, then it's time to crack it open and see what fixin' you can do. If you're willing to spend a few more bucks, the guy who made that cool Sega Neptune could make you one out of your Genesis and 32X if you send them to him, and he'll be able to fix the problems you're having if they're not too far out. Also, the 32X AC brick is required, you will kill the Md and/or 32X by running it without the AC brick. 32X will start sucking power from address and data lines form the cartslot which will lead to an eventual death of something.
Guy from eBay turns out to be a total badass and told me he'll send me another one FREE if I can't get it to work. I'm gonna try it in my other Genesis, then try the ribbon thing, and if none of those work I'll let him know to send me a new one.
