The shading style on the logo text for the first games (1,2,CD) would be PERFECT with the text!
... ? EDIT: Wait a minute, nevermind, I misinterpreted that. I see what you mean now. Working on it. You mean like this? I'm going to tell you right now that the "classic blue and orange" looks hideous on this font, if that's what you were thinking. Now that I see it, the second shot also proves the current palette of the chrome-styled HUD to be a bit to dark, thus making the text rather illegible when placed up against a more detailed background. It would probably be better keep it more faded and pastel-like so that this doesn't occur.

Looks better imo.
Where's the red TIME?
Doesn't really matter since the HUD will be going by a rotating pallet assuming this will be for the Genesis/32x/SegaCD.
Im going to play around with some title card designs. I want some feedback/ideas about something though... End of acts; "SONIC HAS PASSED ACT 1", "SONIC GOT THROUGH ACT 1" or something entirely different?
Out of the 2 I Like "Sonic Has Passed Act _" Better. Maybe on the last Act in a Zone: Sonic Has Passed (INSERT NAME OF ZONE).
The last Act could be a little bit more different, like "Sonic Has Cleared (INSERT NAME OF ZONE)." "Cleared" gives a bit more the feeling of completion.
Could have different phrases depending on how well you did? Like a very basic unobtrusive grading system
I am all for "SONIC HAS PASSED.." And I really like the idea of changing it a little at the end of the level and adding the zone name. Good thinking!
I kind of like this idea. Perhaps if you get a below average score you will "pass" the stage, but if you do well enough you will "master" it. So instead of saying "Sonic Has Passed...." it could say "Sonic Has Mastered...."
I did some work on a potential title card design and I came up with something classic and new. Keep in mind, I threw in a zone name that I thought up.. so it's not an official name for the Tropical Zone, that stuff is later. Beginning title card... When the zone is exposed.. I threw in Rika and Phoebius' background design.
I still think this one's the best so far. Love the ring in the "Act 1" and the little phrase "Welcome to the Next Level"
Agreed, maybe a selection of different fonts could be experimented with but I really think that one is the best overall design we have so far
Or "Sonic Barely Made It" Also, Unleashed-style out of tune music would be awesome. That kind of makes me wonder what Sonic's theme would be in this game. Sonic 1/2 style, or the Sonic 3 and Knuckles style used in today's games.

It really looks cooler with a background behind it. [EDIT] I just had an idea: once the title card's done playing, we could have the player character walk onscreen afterward. That hasn't been done before (other than in Megamix).

LOL
